Rad.  So no bruising reaction with this species, eh?  Nice angle in the second shot.

Wish is very sweet, obviously, but curecat is roughly as sweet as an unripe lemon.

Good work, Danny.  :thumbup:

Species of log please.

Amanitas kill more people than all other mushrooms put together, so an ID of some to be eaten must be correct. An ID based on a photo on the Internets is not reliable enough to potentially risk your life on. ToxicMan

It appeared to have some reddish bruising on the stem but the stem seemed to be rotting a bit.

I think it was growing from hemlock but not totally sure.The wood was very decomposed.

I would call it aspera.... in the past these mushrooms were split up into a few different species -- who doesn't love the increased convenience of lumping?!?!?

Substrate may not be terribly important with these, I've found them in mixed wood chips, walnut duff, and highly decomposed oak humus.

Maybe CureCat would know if Else has worked on these.

Cool mushrooms! :mushroom2::mushroom2::mushroom2::mushroom2::mushroom2:

I don't if it's a reason to tell the putative just-so story of their ancestors.  We could call all the mushrooms toadstools like back in the old daze.  :lol:

I'll take science for $1000 Alex, and leave the history alone. :wink:

Yeah, I try to stay somewhere in between lumping and splitting, without actually getting in the midst of it!  If the evidence supports a split or merge, then it's okay in my book.
