If it smells like a weilii, if it bruises like a weilii, its a weilii, ive found many many deformed or malformed weilii's.
Dickenz has found a few weilii recently, so if it was that obvious I don't think the question would have really been necessary. Only dickenz knows how it bruised and smelled, but if he was asking, i would assume that there was more doubt there than a question of confirmation. Doesn't look like Weilii to me...

With the copious amount of rain we're having, I had better see at least one Weilii poking out of the grass. I always come up short every time I take a walk through my usual walking spot. I want to make sure I finally get a hold of some Weilii after months of searching.

Im entitled to my opinion so chill out i have found tons of mushrooms in weilii habitat that smell just like them and look just like them but are not, ive found mutants like that that had blued heavily where they were folded and squished together. I would think given the condition of the specimen in question it would have been bruised blue when found or soon after.

Ive been picking weilii for 5 years, i know what im talking about. That deformed mushroom dickenz has, its a deformed weilii, believe me i wouldnt bullshit you on these things, in my years of picking ive never found a mushroom that smelled like weilii. Also, Weilii's dont always bruise blue immediately, Ive found many, that had gills from purple to white, they come in every shape and color under the sun. Not trying to be a prick or anything.

Yeah i know weilii can be deformed ive been picking for almost 8 years, im just saying it could be something else.
Im not saying its a weilii im not saying it something else im just saying find out what it is, weigh all your options. Wait till it dries, it should stain blue then if it hasnt already.

8 years? did you have a previous name on here? Or just lurk?
sometimes it takes up to 30 minutes bruise, sometimes you dont see much bluing at all, ive picked many and many that looked just like dickenz found, its just malformed. If it smells like weilii, and has a viscid cap, then its more definitely weilii. They come in all shapes and sizes. Just stating the facts.

I totally agree with you about how they come in all shapes and sizes, but i have seen mushrooms that look and smell like them in the same habitat.
I think it might be the substrate because ive noticed several mushrooms that smell exactly like weilii. Yes i used to have a name on here but was not that active since i would use a friends computer, i didn't have many posts with that name since i wasn't on here much.

Nice finds.....but i really dont think that was a weilii...it had a thick slimy coating..and the gills ran down along the stem...ive found one before just like it...they tend to grow..a few feet from my patch in the moss..

Thats about all Ive been finding recently on my hunts..doesnt seem to be many mushies growing yet...found all kinds of puffballs, parasols, ganoderma, and an old man of the woods, found a few pan subbs/foes, but i think the other mushies will start popping up soon...weilii are still fruiting...at least in my patch

Yea, after this past rain, i was disappointed to find mainly puffballs and not much else. I'm still working on getting my dog to sniff out those weiliis, though.
