What are the differant ways you acheive Lucid dreaming? What kinds of things do you do in your dreams? Has a lucid dream eveer "gone wrong" ? How much control do you really have?

I'm unable to consistently obtain a lucid dream, but melatonin in combination with vitamin B6 has always made it more likely that I will turn lucid within any given dream. Tryptophan works too, but too much makes me feel a little cracked out in the morning. Valerian root doesn't help with lucidity, but it will turn your dream into a four hour marathon of action movies (I still vividly recall one dream which consisted of a plot to rid an underground terrorist bunker of a nuke with an assault team armed with anti-gravity weapons ).
As for non-supplemental techniques, people generally recommend writing down your dreams right after you awake to improve dream recall. I haven't gone to that much trouble yet, but merely making an effort to stay in bed for 5 minutes after that alarm rings to remember and ponder your dream's events will improve general lucidity.
Galantamine is supposed to greatly increase the odds of lucid dreaming, too, but I haven't had the chance to experiment with it yet.

First and foremost I would recommend you read "Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming," by Stephen Laberge, which will give you tons and tons of techniques on achieving lucidity in the dream state.
Lucid dreams don't "go wrong," how could they? You are in control. These things don't actually have control over you like in real life - you can't be shot or something...
My favorite technique is to slowly fall back asleep after I've woken up and hit the snooze button. At this stage dream images will readily make themselves apparent...it's your job to keep focused in that reality and not get lost in it. When you get far enough it will solidify, but don't think "Hmmm I wonder if I'm dreaming," just ASSUME you are. Keep relaxing into the dream state while doing stuff (it seems like staying active helps). At some point you will realize you are in a fully functional dream environment and you can do whatever you want!

The easiest way is learn to recognize sleep paralysis it feels like thee is a heavy lead blanket on top of you and you cant move. If you wake up in the middle of the night concentrate on this feeling when you achieve it wait until it gets really intense and then roll out of bed. Your body wont move but you will be in a dream most likely beginning right next to your bed.
Dont get to exited or concentrate to hard or you will wake up you will learn how to manipulate the environment etc it just takes time if you focus to hard the dream will end. There is a fine line between concentration and letting the dream run it's course that you will need to walk but you can really only learn through experience. Good luck.
Once you get this down try doing it in the middle of the day it is also known as astral projection or wake induced lucid dreams and when you have had a full 8+ hours of sleep they are very cool and insane.

I recommend whenever in real life, you check the time, check it twice.
you will get used to this and do it in dreams, and the time almost always changes.

your body goes through cycles of sleep it is impossible to lucid dream or even dream all night you will get the amount of deep sleep you need because you will naturally fall into it. So you have nothing to worry about.
For some reason the wake induced dreams (after 8+ hours of sleep) are way cooler and more vivid, probably because you are able to have a completely pure REM experience without slipping in and out of deep sleep.
It takes some practice but is worth it in the end.
BTW another great technique that works but takes a little longer is a few times a day ask yourself if you are dreaming and look around and make sure you are awake after a while this will become habit and you will do so in your dreams.

Here's my basic technique: I set my alarm to go off maybe 4 hours into sleeping, then fall back asleep again. Try and focus on remembering that you are dreaming as you reach the point where you're dreaming but not actually asleep yet.
I carry a little piece of paper in my wallet that tells me I'm NOT dreaming, which I pull out at random points in the day, just to be sure. When I am dreaming, I *almost* never have it. There was *one* time where it was there though.
Also, one time I lost it in real life but thought I was dreaming for a good solid thirty minutes. THAT was a weird morning to say the least lol.

Ive been smoking a bowl of Calea Zacatetichi before bed lately. No noticeable effects so far only been going 3 days. Supposedly it aids in becoming lucid.

I'm curious as to what everyone does when they successfully lucid dream. For some reason as of late I've been having fun diving off tall buildings and plummeting rapidly towards the ground. I always land harmlessly, but I'm still not sure what exactly this is saying about my inner psyche.

Lol that's great. I wouldn't worry man, I had a lucid dream a few weeks ago where when I had the inkling that I was dreaming, I gabbed a coffee cup and threw it through the large picture window of my parent's house....I think it's just the desire to experience what you normally can't.
WornTraveler - I *highly* recommend you put write "I AM dreaming," on the piece of paper, because every time you look at it in a dream you will say "I am dreaming...I'M DREAMING! yay!" This is related to another technique described in the book I mentioned that is similar your 4 hour tech.
I've done this after getting my full night's sleep, without disturbing myself after only 4 hours. Once I wake up I press snooze then as I fall back asleep I repeat "1 - I'm dreaming, 2 - I'm dreaming, 3 - I'm dreaming, etc." until you fall asleep and start dreaming, then you will say in your dreaming "45 - I'm dreaming; hey, I'm dreaming!" I used this tech once to seamless enter the dream world, which was interesting. There was a count of about 3 where my state of mind was shifting to the dream state then I suddenly found myself in a mountainous valley filled with snow & pine trees. Of course, I immediately started flying! lol
The good thing about using your snooze button is you have a new chance every time it goes off! Most sources recommend setting your alarm for an 1.5-2 hours before your normal waking period.
I havn't been too diligent about keeping a dream journal, but it seems like I dream about similar things all the time. I would think it best to at least start noticing what you dream about most, then reality check those every chance you get...for example, if you dream about work often, reality check at work all the time.
