Growing Gourmet Mushrooms For Money?

Hey, I was just thinking about ways to make money and I was wondering if it would be very profitable to grow gourmet mushrooms and sell them at the local farmers market or make a deal with area restaurants? Maybe large commercial growers would own the market but what do you think? Worth the time and effort or not?

possibly, but you would need space to do it in a worthwhile manner.
maybe start just growing them for yourself and see where that goes.

Ive thought about that I think knowing what I know I would get a few strains truffels for one are worth a lot.
Strains and a market value link would help.
I would grow them in sterilize substrate appropriate for the strain in half pint jars then spawn to straw and buy a large tent with automatic humidity built in and then this is the best part
sell them at a road side stand.

I remember someone years ago posting this question, and then someone else went through the various expenses/licensing for sale in restaurant/grocery store, basically if you intend to make any sizable amount of money, you better be making alot of mushrooms

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe truffles can't be grown in vitro.

In New Zealand and Australia
The first black truffles (Tuber melanosporum) to be produced in the southern hemisphere were harvested in Gisborne, New Zealand in 1993. In 1999, the first Australian truffles were harvested in Tasmania, the result of eight years of work. Trees were inoculated with the truffle fungus in the hope of creating a local truffle industry. Their success and the value of the resulting truffles has encouraged a small industry to develop.
In vitro no, but you can inoculate tree roots to grow truffles.

The Tuber magnatum truffles sell between €2,000 and €4,000 per kilogram ($1350 - $2700 per pound).
Interesting..

Yep, they have to be grown with a host tree, this place sells trees, you need sweet soil, limestone rich, and well drain soil with plenty of moisture to get them to produce.
