Dreams that feel more real than waking life

Have you ever had a dream that felt more real than waking life does?
This happens to me once every few months, and it's one of those things that just leaves me thinking, "what the fvck!?" It happened just today when I layed down for a nap. The environment in the dream was very Earth-like, and it felt like an alternate life or universe. The dream consisted mostly of me just remembering things. I would remember things just like if I right now remembered what I did last week, and the memories felt soooo real. They were just ordinary events in this alternate life, but it felt more real than this life that I'm in right now.
Here's the weirdest part. My real life mother was in the dream as well, but only as a memory, a feeling that I hadn't seen her in a long time. My dream-self missed her so much. It seemed like I knew her as a spirit and my dream-self knew that she was my mother in this life, and was contacting me to tell me this.
The emotion became too much so I forced myself awake. When I woke up I was so disoriented it took me a few seconds to remember where I was (in my bed at home). I was short of breath and gasping for air for a couple minutes, and the other reality in the dream bled through into my consciousness for several more minutes before I could finally re-orient myself in this reality. The emotion for my mother was still lingering and I starting crying. This life seemed so boring and dull in comparison to what I just felt.

One point in my life when I was mentally ill (generalized anxiety, major depression, psychotic features, schizophrenia type stuff... your basic existential crisis), I was having very vivid dreams, yet they still had the non-linear aspect of dreams, where everything could be crazy but make perfect sense. I'd wake up and be like "holy shit." I knew out of all the problems I was having, the last thing I needed was a fear of sleep or whatever, so I never let it happen. But that was really the most intense part of my sickness... the absolutely super-real dreams that made waking life seem like a dream. Although, I guess that's why it's called derealization.

In reality there is no difference between dreaming & waking states both are illusionary, when you wake up from a dream they don't affect you, (maybe temporarily, emotionally). Similarly when you wake up from life you see it has had no effect on you whatsoever.
Nothing actually ever happened at all this whole universe is a dream, an illusion.

Its interesting how once asleep we happily accept dreams as our reality. We don't really question reality within a dream unless we become lucid.
Yet in reality we question reality all the time (some of us do anyway).

Do you see what you just said?
You see that in dreams you accept that dreams are reality, it goes unquestioned.
Then you said "in reality..." which means you are already assuming that this waking state is reality! So like in the dream you are accepting what you see here as reality! Do you see what i'm getting at?
To question reality get to the very root of the matter, the one who believes in real or unreal. What is it that these beliefs seem to stick to?

Entirely.
I only accept it as reality as theres only waking and dream states as far as I perceive.
That was my point also that waking life is equally as likely to be accepted regardless of what actual reality is.
I'm certain we have very little understanding of actual reality. We already know that theres tons of stuff going on that we cant perceive. The possibilities are endless.
We are just receptors in a huge DNA/RNA being that is attempting to comprehend itself. We are incapable of going any further down the rabbit hole than this. IMO We have to evolve more first.

i had one of those dreams last night. the dream was a continuation of the night before's reality. it was incredibly lucid and somebody i know told me some things in the dream that fucked me up pretty bad. thing is, in normal lucid dreaming I can always spot a few inconsistencies that show me i am dreaming. i think the fact that i was unable to find any in this dream fucked me up, as i was looking for a means of escape from what i was being told, but instead i had to face it.
i dont know whats going on, but this is the second dream in less than a week where i have felt intense negative emotions in my lucid state, which is rare for me. the other dream hurt the front of my brain when i woke up, it was as earth-shattering as any psychedelic experience i have had.
i feel like i need to overhaul my life really really soon.

Isn't it interesting how a person that is 'awakened' to themselves have a divine appearance in which they appear to never have seen anything? I guess that's why God stays forever pure, because there's nothing there, nothing is ever seen.

I want to just add that the pain you experienced was more likely muscular or a nerve or high blood pressure, rather than your brain. As far as I know you can't "feel" your brain... I don't know what that makes migraine headaches though

the main difference between waking life and dreaming is that in dreams we have no sense of criticism whatsoever.

I see what your talking about, the evolution of consciousness, but the most ridiculous part is it evolves to where it always was, awareness.
So you don't have to wait for anything, just stay as the awareness.
Waking, dreaming & deep sleep awareness is present in all of them, so what is the truth of all these states? What enables them to appear? Awareness.
Evolution is complex, the truth at the end of it all is the most simple thing, its so simple you cant even think about it as its the ground where thoughts come from!
The mind/thinking wants a task to get to the "goal", it simply cant grasp that it is already at the "goal". It has been trained that it must do something to get somewhere.
This is the biggest joke of the universe, billions of years of evolution to get where you always were!

I often find myself, in realites, ...
And in those realities, I know about this reality...
But, in this reality, "we" seem to lable those other realities, "dreams" ..
So.. In the realities, where I recall this reality, I kind of feel more real, than when in this reality, recalling no other reality...
Seems to have lots to do with something else, though.. We all chose, even if we chose, not to be able to chose... (Some poor saps, actually do that...)
