Sassafras
    #8613047 - 07/09/08 01:19 PM (4 months, 24 days ago)

I want to do something different with sassafras.  I make tea now and then, which I love, and I can gather tons of it on the train tracks near where I live.  Any suggestions of something good and EASY to make with sassafras?  I love sweets but I try to stay away from refined sugar, so any healthy, (even semi-healthy),easy sweet ideas would be great.

Make homemade rootbeer

A very basic rootbeer can be made with sarsparilla, sassafras , molasses and yeast. The yeast is for carbonation, won't give it alcohol when added at bottling . If you have a Co2 tank and can force carbonate you don't need the yeast.

Not that I would ever actually make mdma  but how easy???

I never thought of using it as a spice, that is a good idea.  :sun:

I will look up a root beer recipe, or if you have one send it my way.  Where would I get sarsaparilla?  Would I have to order it offline?  Don't think I have ever seen it in the store, .....maybe at a health food store.

Thanks   Lol, it isn't really my birthday in the literal sense.  It is my "rebirth" day. A friend gave me a gift last year at this time and it changed my life.  Funny we are talking about mdma right now

Anyway...I can barely make a cake...so I don't think I will be making anything that is a level 4 on a scale of 1-10.

I'd say the MDMA would be better and maybe safer...

Watch out...  Look up the studies if you procede.... Safrole and assuredly other compounds in sasafras are banned in the US as a food additive, I believe, as a probable human carcinogen.

I understand that you're just giving a kind warning and I appreciate that.  I also know that ingesting too much water can be lethal.

I have also heard that sassafras is carcinogenic, but I don't think occasional use of sassafras roots to flavor tea or in a once or twice a month meal, will hurt me too much.  :smile2:  If so, then I guess I know the consequences.

...and since I am not a chemist, the E thing is definitely out of the picture.  Now if anyone wants to donate some to a good cause... I think I might know someone that would definitely be appreciative.

Try making something with the whole leaves, they are quite tasty, Maybe make some small meatballs, and then steam them on top of and below  whole sassafras leaves with a little bit of water to infuse the flavor of the leaves into the meatballs. Then discard the leaves.
