Where to start with small amouts of money?
    #8605724 - 07/07/08 10:17 PM (4 years, 10 months ago)

I'm looking to invest about 2-3k. What do you suggest? IRA? Stocks, bonds, cd. Drugs, and women? Where will I see a nice return, with such a small amount of cash? I need to do it quick before I spend it.

Well, I'll be honest. I invested a similar amount about two years ago in a "diversified fund" my stock-broker buddy bought for me, and in two years, I've lost 200 dollars. I suppose wizards on the market can still make money doing fancy stuff like short-selling and whatnot, but for an average-Joe, the stock market is NOT the place to be right now.

Meanwhile, two weeks ago, a fictional character that a friend of a friend knows took 170 bucks, bought a half-ounce of weed, and is now over a thousand dollars between hard cash and reinvested inventory, which is selling like hotcakes of course. I would not advise anyone to break the law, but I definitely feel like I was cheated. I  mean, I followed the law, and I lost two hundred dollars over two years. A fictional character a friend of a friend knows breaks the law and is rolling in dough now. WTF right?

$3000 you say..

1 Krugerrand (1 troy ounce pure gold)
10x 10oz silver bar (100 troy ounce pure silver)

and you're left with $200 to spend on fun.
