I haven't posted in this thread yet because it's been a slow year so far. That is until last week. I was just scanning some old spots when I drove by s school yard. I noticed the grass was lush and green so I stopped and gave it a quick look. I found a few right off the bat so I decided to come back later when I was more prepared. I came back that afternoon and was picking the odd one here and there when I looked down the road a bit and saw a bunch of caps peppered throughout the grass. When I got closer I couldn't believe my eyes. Tons and tons! And fatties too! I picked over a pound and I left as much as I took. Almost all of them were already a bright indigo blue at the base. Some were blue almost an inch up the stem. Some guy came by and asked what I was picking and I had to tell him it was mushrooms since he could see what I was doing. But I told him they were medicinal mushrooms and he went away. I came back today and found another several ounces but they were bigger than last weeks. And even more bluing than before. I am so stoked to finally find a big haul. These are unbelievable for lawn Subbs. Usually it takes me weeks of picking to get enough for two people.
And it's been 100+ degrees and dry as hell.
I do apologize for the lack of pictures, but I don't have a camera at the moment. I do however have a ton of Subbs
Subb hunters must be the boldest of mushroom hunters because we pick right out in the open in front of everyone, on the side of the road, in the middle of traffic, in front of cops....
But it does pay off.
Cheers

Yeah, the horses I pick around always come up and say hi. I just pet them, and give them some treats. They love clovers. No need to be afraid unless one really "charges" you.

I agree.
I do too, since I haven't had any digestive problems when eating Subbs intermixed with Foes, but I couldn't speak for those eating large numbers of Foes...

Horses and cows have never (except for that bull one time) given me a problem.Sometimes they'll get curious and try to approach you,and when they do, just ignore them and go about your business.

i wish i had known this, i was inside a horse pasture with electric fences and there were only a few places you could duck under the fence. the horse started approaching me i tried to jump between the two wires and got shocked.

I found a patch of subbalteatus last night on the side of a road with at least thousands of subbalteatus. Theres a good 300 square feet of grass riddled with subbs. I plan on taking pictures later. I couldnt ever take them all at once.

That's what happened to me. I found a huge fruiting. I was picking for about 45 minutes. I was starting to feel the conflict between my greed and my fear of being confronted by the police. Just a few more. Ok, just a few more. I've been back to that patch several times now and just grab the biggest ones. What's weird is Saturday I picked a box full of the big ones and left hundreds of smaller ones, but when I went back this morning there were NONE. Not even one. There were tons of conocybes though. Strange. I'll give it a week and check back.

My main spot hasnt fruited in about a month. Its wierd, I was pulling hundreds from this one spot. The lawn mower man didnt take care of the lawn for over 3 weeks, Then he cut it and I havent seen any since. Well, I take that back, I found 5 about a week ago.

i havent picked subbs in the pasture i frequent in a looooong time, since these rednecks bush-hogged the pasture there have been no subbs, they should be back in the fall though. Subbs dont like very hot temps and down here its very hot.

The subbalteatus season is not over but a lot of people generally ignore the stickies because they are up above the rules where people don't look for threads to click on. If its an active discussion it will stay on the first page anyway.
