I can't really see how large the tear is in that pic. However, usually a small tear doesn't matter much when you're rolling a blunt because you'll be wrapping the leaf around it anyway.

Why'd you take it apart? Just lick one side until soggy and separate it with your thumb nails - that way everything stays in tact. Gut it, fill it and roll/tighten it down like you would a joint, then lick the shit out of it again and wrap it up. I rolled a perfect one my first time - I guess some just make it out to be harder than it is. Keep trying till you get it, it's like riding a bike.

What you do is just kind of wrap/fold it around rather than spinning it like you would a joint. Wrap it fairly loosely, it doesn't have to be perfect, and then tighten it up with the leaf.

Trimming the paper and leaf is the most important part of rolling a blunt. You can roll the same size blunt using half as much blunt paper. I cut at least a third from the top of the blunt paper and leaf. Burns just as slow and makes a blunt taste more like weed than blunt.

because it's a dutchmaster, you're supposed to pull the leaf apart and roll it that way. Besides that one poster in this thread i've never, ever, heard of any splitting a dutchmaster.

hmm... I roll them all the same way, and they all turn out the same way. Didn't know of these kinds of things when rolling blunts 
Maybe it's a Chicago thing... I've never seen it done any other way. Shit some people grow their thumbnails out just so they can split it easier.

If you take the leaf off there is a nice line to crack it down using only your thumbs, no need to grow your finger nail out long.

Most of the people I know take the leaf off then split the casing with their thumbs. A few people are meticulous enough to unwrap the casing.

Never said that I did lol... I never saw growing my thumbnails out for the sole purpose of splitting blunts appealing. I understand what you're saying, but to me, that's just another step. My blunts are just fine without removing the leaf and wrapping it back on later when I can just keep the whole thing in tact ya know? I dunno... Good luck, Gumby, don't give up!

It takes 10 seconds to trim it. Unless you are rolling enough to fill the blunt, it should be trimmed.

you take off the outer leaf and put it aside. Then you take the inner casing, split it, gut it, fill it with weed, and roll it up. Then you take the natural leaf and roll it up around the other casing which tightens the blunt.

after you pull the leaf off wrap it around a beer can or something else with condensation. neat little trick to get it moist but not wet and helps with rolling the leaf on.

 I can't stand it when someone will roll up like .6 in a blunt wrap and not cut any width off, makes for a bad tasting cough your lungs out everyhit blunt and not the good kind of cough.
