Movie forum suggestion?

There appears to be a thread for just about every new movie that comes out that looks interesting.
So I thought it might be a good idea to have a thread dedicated to it/or sub thread for pub or something.
but thats not my only suggestion.
The most important part to me, is somehow integrating a rating system. and being able to tag members of this site with similar opinions of movies. That way you easily know who to trust. There seems to be many ways of going about this, if properly set up it would be very valuable to the members of this site.
the goal, to know if you should go to the theater or not, and it makes it much easier when you have someone you can trust a bit more. Having some kind of tagging system would make it much easier, and having a dedicated forum i think would increase more accurate opinions.
With so many interesting trailers for movies that turn out flops, and the bias ninjas that make comments on the big movie sites, i feel a movie forum thread would be of great benefit to its members.
also i know its been of some concern lately about over worked moderators, so im sure this would hold some deciding factor. I feel a movie thread would be low maintence, and like the recent pinned topic in the pub, could be helped by members using the report feature.
thanks for reading and considering
P.S. adding this forum would also cut down on the traffic in the PUB making the moderators jobs there more easier and organized

how about starting a movie thread in MAL?

well what I'm thinking is one thread would be 2 big and unorganized. the threads in the pub "almost" work but they get buried way to quick. so a movie that came out a month or 2 ago thats still in theaters i can't post in it. so id have to make a new thread.
and then finding these threads about movies becomes another trick. i can find quite a few of them, but some take some searching and shifting, while others are either unfindable or non existent.
with a dedicated thread/sub thread i think there would be more consistent posters which would result in more consistent reviews. People would take the posts a bit more serious I think, like in the forum you suggested people seem more serious about them topics. I'm just not sure a big thread would work very well, and a bunch of tiny ones would clutter MAL.
Plus they will get buried very quickly in an undedicated thread, since only a few movies come out each week and even less are appealing. It looks like most people talk about movies in the pub so a sub forum would recieve the most feedback more easily I would think, but i suppose more awkward as well.

i am bumbing this thread because it would be awesome if you could integrate a movie rating system (ex. 1-100) just as a site side page. no need for forum as we don't really have any amature film makers here.
but a rating system would be cool. I think it would get used fairly well.

Interesting idea, but it kind of sounds like feature creep, wouldn't this sort of functionality be better provided by a site like IMDB?

so your saying we actually have to leave the shroomery that's way to much trouble
seriously tho i check out IMDB from time to time, mostly to see what actors are in a movie or to find older movies to watch, but other than that it seems useless. the main problem with that site is its designed for like 1990 and the forums on it are ancient. also there's no connectivity/trust among reviewers.
since i posted this topic we now have a gaming forum so a movie forum/sub would round out all the major hobbies most americans have considering we have brewing, cooking, ect ect lol
I'm still trying to figure out how a rating system would work out and not be overwhelming like you mention. seeing as how we already have general and trade ratings it seems tedious on how to implement it just thinking about it.
the main goal i had in mind was being able to have a forum to discuss movies(this rating system could work for games too) and while discussing them if i think hey i didn't like that movie then i could give a thumbs up or down for that user and maybe have a tiny space to put in the movie or game name next to that thumbs up or down.
from there little things like seeing just my ratings at a glace would also be helpful as the main goal is connecting with others taste wise with movies/games. this is all in an attempt to save money and time when seeing movies or buying/renting games.
i just thought of another possibility while typing all this out, if there was an interactive poll, that users could make with a new thread/post, and then everyone could just go into that thread and give a thumbs up or down....like normal voting polls. but then do a spyder web thing where data gets collected and analysed. in simple terms those who vote yes on a poll for a movie when i vote yes earn my trust in some kind of percentage. and when i vote yes and someone else votes no then they lose trust. this happens for everyone who participates in the poll, not just the thread/poll maker.
the next main thing needed is being able to easily see your trusted peeps votes for new/old- movies/games
if this all actually worked and was actively used it would be a great tool. most movie review sites Ive seen usually have just a list of positive and negative reviews, but that just gives the general acceptance by the public. but movie taste vary considerably and with a well designed system in which the user reviewers are actively connected to one another you then get closer matches with movies/games you'll like as it matches directly for your own taste, not the general acceptance.
think GTA IV for example, that game scored very high by reviewers yet i really didn't think that game was all that great. which just made me realize one more dilemma that would have to be worked out the degree to which a person likes a movie/game.
i don't blame you for not wanting to add this feature it is a feature creep indeed. i can't believe i just wrote all that to come to the same conclusion oh well, it would be nice but hard to do right

Wow. I don't think I've ever seen someone write so much to try and sway the admins for a new forum.

i was just thinking outloud jew, most of what i wrote was me actually putting some thought into the topic at hand...
and if i was really trying to sell it i wouldn't have wrote what i did in that previous post, something more like this would make sense.
i mean think about it, wouldn't it be nice to only have to visit one website for all your needs? and then the kicker having it be the shroomery with cool mods. if you look across the web the bullshit thats going on is crazy, half the forums on other websites are just undercover salesmen coupled with censorship of not only the norm but also regarding anything negative said about any products they sell or are connected to. ive actually been on websites that have written rules basically saying the above.
and if you look at the forums before and after the gaming one was created you'll see that there has been a steady rise in gaming related topics. point being from a buisness perspective it will increase traffic, and help organize just like all other sub forms have. at the same time it will cut down on the endlist "recommend me a movie" threads that pop up once a month or so in the pub.
