A grain jar that has tyvek over it and covered with 90% duct/masking tape to prevent air exchange and grains drying out.
I would, I don't have a camera. I remember seeing it from tahoe.

use a 2 piece lid with 2 coffee filters in between the pieces of lid.. and stap a 1/3" hole in the lid for exchange.. its very simple...
air exchange and a cheap filter.. VOILA

How about siliconing a tyvek filter to the top of the lid instead. Tyvek is free at your local post office. Definately holds up better

No offense but that's retarded. What's the 2 piece lid for? Coffee filters SUCK. Plus you don't want air exchange during colonization, you want gas exchange....fixed your grammar of 'stap' to 'stab'. I remember seeing tahoe with a picture of one.

ummm.. no.. its not retarded... the hole IS for gas exchange, and coffee filters work fine as long as you are not breathing down the fucking filter.. haha
and it looks like I said "exchange" not fae.. so, yeah.. actually have something to clown if you are going to put on the suit.. coffee filters work great, and I never get contams.. you know why? cause I dont blow into the GE hole in the jar..
people really like to make things harder on themselves.. I have used coffee filters for 10 years, and they have never failed me once.. sooo.. yeah.. they dont suck..

I remember reading a post from RR about coffee filters. He said its like trying to stop mosquitos using a barbed wire fence. They don't do anything. Use Tyvek!

DO NOT USE COFFEE FILTERS.
When you PC your jars, where do you think some of the moisture in those jars go?
Directly on that coffee filter which has a potential to breed contamination.
I have lost more than a few jars doing this. As soon as I used tyvek and micropore tape everything miraculously was okay.

I have NEVER lost a jar doing it like this.. They never get wet.. when you first pull the foil off of them when they come out of the PC, they are slightly wet, but dry very quickly.. They work perfectly, if used correctly.. coffee filters are the shit.. never failed in a decade...

While you have had some success using coffee filters, they technically function as little more than a dust cover. Most contaminate spores are much smaller than the unseen holes in a coffee filter.

well, I havent had "some" success.. Ive had 10 years of success with them.. I have never used any special filters.. its not like spores are going to be crawling in there or breaking in with a knife... if you are clean and keep them in a clean spot, its all good..
I dont know why people find that so hard to believe.. they work great.. and i know that they are not "technically" a filter, but they work fine.. I have had other people do it the same way, and they dont seem to have trouble with it..

so you haven't lost a jar in ten years? how is it that you defy the law of averages? lets be real. coffee filters may be cheap (on more levels than one), but tyvek is free. How do you inoculate your jars? do you puncture the coffee filter and then tape or do you do g2g's? Tyvek and silicone is far superior to coffee filters. it's a simple test. pour water into your coffee filter and water into a cup made of tyvek. Which one holds water better. That's the better of the two.
