Legalizing in the USA.
    #8597332 - 07/05/08 12:44 PM (3 months, 4 days ago)

Mexico legalized every drug. Now we see an influx of more and more drugs coming here through Mexico.
What if we were to legalize Everything? Crack/coke dealers would be out of business, wouldn't this make crime increase dramatically? Most crack/coke dealers can't get jobs that pay well enough to sustain their cost of living, because most are felons. They'll have to find another way to make money.

On the other hand, if we just legalized magic mushrooms, marijuana, and peyote type things, what kind of difference do you think that would make on the country? There's way more money to be had selling coke than weed. I don't think crime would increase very much, but maybe a few youngins that rely on selling marijuana would be more tempted to rob for money. That's the worst thing I can see coming from that. The Pharmaceutical industry would be impacted hard though, so would lumber. It could put lots of people out of business. Do you think legalizing bud would harm our economy? Is this why we haven't done it here (USA) yet?  It's legal in Amsterdam but everything up there is so expensive. Does anyone know what kind of impact it had on Amsterdam's pharm industry?

legalizing drugs in the US would be like desegregating the KKK...

Mexico did not legalize anything.

They were thinking about it but the US government talked them out of it and told them it would be a disaster and that we would stop trading with them if they did that.

So instead they stepped up the drug war and put the military all over the border, causing lots of violence and dead people but not stopping the flow of drugs at all.

Things would be better if we legalize everything.  People wouldn't have to steal to support their habits.

I don't think legalizing peyote and mushrooms and weed would have very much of an effect.  Addicts would still steal for heroin money.

Peyote is legal in canada and always has been.  Doesn't seem to have much effect. San Pedro has almost the same chemicals as peyote and its posession is not prosecuted in the US, and this doesn't seem to have much effect.  In the UK fresh psilocybin mushrooms were legal for years and it didn't seem to create much enlightenment that I could notice from across the pond.
