I'm guessing that the coffee is an additive for some bulk recipe. A PC should kill everything in there. The only things that survive PCing are endospores, but they germinate in moist environments, so they should be vulnerable to PCing in your case.
Usually you don't want to sterilize bulk substrate. Pasteurization lets some beneficial bacteria survive and gives a bit of a defense against contamination. If you are mixing the coffee with something else, like coir, poo, ect, be sure to PC your coffee, mix it with the rest of the bulk, and then properly pasteurize it. That will let you kill any funk thats been growing in the fridge yet still keep the good bacteria.
I keep my used coffee grounds in the fridge too and have no problem just pasteurizing it, but months of storage time may be pushing it.

Yeah, but storing used coffee for months might just be a bit dangerous.
If this isn't a compost pile...
Why not make a new pot of coffee?

Or why not just let the used grinds fully dry before you store them? I usually make a morning pot of coffee and then just dump the majority of the grinds out of the filter and onto a plate, spread them about and let them sit for a day or so on top of my oven to dry off. My oven has pilot lights underneath the burners which keep it nice and warm. They are then totally dry at that point.

yes i plan to use them with bulk coir. i got to thinking about that being a risk of contamination. i know sterilizing bulk substrates is wrong and will cause contams. so this being said, it is ok to sterilize the coffee additive? would it be advisable to soak the coffee in question as you would grain to germinate any endospores? then pc. and in the future i plan to dry the coffee right away.

I would think so. I've used coffee which I had left around for too long and ended up growing bactera in it. I just dried it in the oven and then threw it in my bulk sub. I didn't bother sterilising it and have had no issues from it.

haha you could have heated the oven enough to sterilize no? minus the pressure. i think i will do anything to be on the safe side. thanks to all who added info on this topic.

Very possible. I think it was on a pretty low heat though so it wouldn't burn it.

So, just cook it in the oven at 350F till it is dry.

you DO NOT need coffee for coir..
again: 3rd flush, straight coir

I cant wait till I have a different goddam pic.. lol
but, yes.. you can PC it.. it will still have all the same nutes.. if you were storing it in the fridge it will be cool.. dont bake it.. if anything, get a cheese cloth and pasteurize it at 160f for 2 hours or just pc.. I would just pasteurize it, though.. coffee isnt really needed, though...

No, you don't but you can add it if you want. Every single additive is beneficial by diversifying the nutrients available to the mycelia. No one additive is necessary but they all help.
Yes, just dry it in the oven to store, then add it as you need it.
