Perhaps my scale needs to be calibrated but, nevertheless, here are some mushrooms to look at.
 
 
I almost missed these.
 
Katsushika Hokusai would be proud -- In the Well of the Great Wave of Lateritius.
Close observation of the forest floor can be quite rewarding, many of the most pristine specimens were hidden beneath the leaf little.

Those are stinkhorns, not Chanterelles.

Damn dude your lactarius indigo are POPPING with color.. Mine were getting old and turning to that faded green color with orange/yellow splotches... I still tried them though, i didnt really enjoy the taste... Maybe ill get some fresher ones with more rain.

damnit... i was hoping you would say you made a mistake and your find amounted to nine pounds... then i would have responded with "i meant 8.5 KILOS...."
Actually they only weighed in around seven pounds so you got me!!

indigo are some of the mushrooms that need something to taste good , or only if you like that some how bitter taste , is not really bitter but sort of, , to have a delicious meal , you have to combine with meat , pork meat work fine, but i hope we can get a good recipe i made one by accident and like to make a new standardized one , before we get to blue in the forest floor.
do any have a good recipe for indigo , maybe you George with out fish .
i still need to find the chanterelle spot many false around here now , there are close to sprout.

do you cut them at the base with that knife i see in sum of those pics? I just pull mine is that bad for them.

Its fine either way. He is probably cutting them to keep the other mushrooms in his basket clean. The mushrooms are used to being pulled because that is what the animals have been doing for millions of years.
One scientific study recorded the effects of both cutting and pulling and they found slightly more mushrooms coming up later in the patch that was pulled. But it wasn't enough of a difference to be statistically significant.

The only time i find lactarius indigo i find 20-50 at a time... I always pulled mine up and ive only eaten them once... I would only pull up like 10 at a time to study them (and to look for younger/fresher ones) but they came back for two years in a row
I think once you have a lactarius indigo spot they come back no matter what they are HARDCORE

cool thanx alan, mine always get very dirty but i just clean em all before i cook them. I would like too see that study if accessible alan sounds interesting. Paul stamets says that when you disturb a patch of shrooms by walking over them or pulling them up the myc will reach up too fill the empty holes or too grab debris too fruit from.

Now that i think about it
this patch is about 25 on its own... and i found probably 6 patches of this size..
Unfortunately most areas of the woods with all the patches have been raped by kids... with metals and chemicals and spray paint and trash... I had to go deep in the woods to find an untouched area to get the ones i ate but they still werent fresh enough i think

i just can`t explain the roughest taste lactarius have , if you put the taste of agaricus a common mushrooms as standard , and you add for example amanita flavor (edible kind) and boletus flavors, well the lactarius flavor is some how bitter or hard ,different.. can you elaborate the taste of yours is hard for me but for sure is not a mushrooms i will enjoy with a bit of oil and a bit of salt, no no no , lactarius indigo taste so hard to be eat like that you have to elaborate with this ones and a perfect meal will come out , that what i said.
Can we all make a perfect lactarius meal that don't fail, i guess we can we are finding many lactarius that we can try many combinations.

I think of Lactarius indigo as a novelty food used primarily for aesthetic impact. They don't work well as a primary ingredient. I'm going to think of something to do with these and will post a recipe and photos if it turns out well.
You were probably thinking of the From the Deep Blue Sea to a Sea of Deep Blue Mushrooms experiment. It tasted ok but I won't be preparing them in this manner again.

me too , i was almost to give up and use lactarius to impress females because ¡hey! eat green egg is impressive isn`t , until i try that meal with pork in the nevado the colima with Alan , i completely understood that to make a good meal of it have to get that combinations ,it had to be a precise combinations of ingredients and maybe circumstances. so i still think a secret recipe is hiding out there.
