I think of Lactarius indigo as a novelty food used primarily for aesthetic impact. They don't work well as a primary ingredient. I'm going to think of something to do with these and will post a recipe and photos if it turns out well.

You were probably thinking of the From the Deep Blue Sea to a Sea of Deep Blue Mushrooms experiment. It tasted OK but I won't be preparing them in this manner again.

me too , i was almost to give up and use lactarius to impress females because ¡hey! eat green egg is impressive isn`t , until i try that meal with pork in the nevado the colima with Alan , i completely understood that to make a good meal of it have to get that combinations ,it had to be a precise combinations of ingredients and maybe circumstances. so i still think a secret recipe is hiding out there.

I didn't use photo shop but it is safe to say the photography technique had something to do with it. I used multiple flash units in different positions to highlight and enrich the colors. However they were deeply blue specimens.

And the picture of the blue bubbling diced mushrooms wasn't manipulated either.

Cactu: I think indigos might be well served with something that has a smoky flavor. Maybe even smoke the mushrooms a bit themselves.

I prepared a blue bisque with indigos once. Pureeing them helped to eliminate they unappealing granular texture -- it was really good but i have to say the mushrooms didn't really contribute to the flavor.

Here is a recent meal featuring chanterelles (the Chorizo is actually a vegetarian soy based product). You might think of chorizo as possessing a flavor that would overwhelm the mushrooms however they combined nicely and the mushrooms added an interesting complexity.

That was the best Lactarius I have ever eaten by far.  I guess the recipe is to go to Mexico, get an awesome pork burrito, empty it out over the diced Lactarius indigo and fry it all over over a campfire.

If i find enough indigos i would like to pass them along to an accomplished local chef to see what he thinks.

I do eat a bit of meat from time to time but this meal was to be shared with a vegetarian so a meatless product was used.

Enjoy your frostii!!

Some of that meatless stuff is really good.

I am a vegetarian but I eat meat at least twice a week (just to piss off all the other vegetarians).

Nice finds. Those Lactarius indigo's are really cool. That simmering pot of blue looks quite freakish though. A blue meal just seems somehow wrong.

Okay guys, until Danny came on the scene with all this "she said" commentary, I had never heard it used with any frequency....

Then it started coming up in all these threads.  So I go with some irl friends to the mountains, and guess what I get to hear all week?? "THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID!"
:bored:
Sometimes it is funny... Sometimes.

Maybe my friends all said it long before this festival and the music was always too loud for me to notice, but goddamn!!!!

Anyway, georgeM, I was hoping to reference your "meal of paint", but I guess I showed up a bit late.  Man, Lactarius are so not one of my choice edibles...

Alan and I ate Leotia lubrica once this past Fall.  But he spit his out!!
What a foul texture...

--------------------

Wish is very sweet, obviously, but curecat is roughly as sweet as an unripe lemon.

drrrrr ddd..dd. like I'm curecat and I'm a spastic retard
