Bastion and Atreyu from the first movie are still alive, but bastion from the second movie (jonathan brandis) (from SeaQuest, and Sidekicks... etc..) commited suicide.

I tripped on the Nothing as a kid too.
The book is different and very good actually...
The author was a Theosophist, he had nothing to do with the movies though.
