1) what made you think they were cubes?

2) what state are you in? They dont grow in every state/country

check out this pictorial for what cubes look like http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/8045055/an/0/page/0

They look like Cortinarius.  Definitely not active or edible.

1) well, my friend is growing cubes and he had a little extra spore solution so we squirted it in a pile of his extra substrate in my backyard three weeks ago. about a week after we did this, a neighbor found the mycelium and promptly disposed of it, assuming it was mold. but there was still some left around. when i mowed my lawn today i found these mushrooms growing in a circular pattern out from the site of our little garden so i collected them, took a spore print (which came out brown, by the way)and took pictures because i was curious to see if the left over mycelium had been spread across the lawn and had grown into mushrooms. I guess it was just too good to be true.

2.) I live in MA and it's been hot and rainy all week.

Squirting spore solution into a pile of substrate outside probably wont work that well at all

For sure, I did the same thing in some hpoo compost. A big waste of time and spores.

There are already too many other kinds of spores around so the cube spores would be in the minority and unlikely to take off.
