Im sure theres probably a hundred posts on this topic, but mine was a little more specific to the shrooms I just picked up. Anyway, I bought about 9g. Out of these 9g, there is a giant shroom that weighs 5.2g itself. It measures 10.7 cm in length as well. Its a beautiful specimen and the main reason I asked for it was because I thought it would be cool to eat the entire thing for my first trip. Like instead of pieces, have the thing as one entity.
Anyway, from most peoples reports they eat like handful of stems and caps. Since this is only one mushroom will it be as potent as say 5.2g of various mushroom pieces? I was figuring my first experience should be around the 3.5g range...so would eating this whole mushroom be overkill or will it not be as potent since its only one giant cap and stem? Your right there are hundreds of post on it, but to answer your question. Dude 5.2g for your first trip??? I mean if you think you can handle it, but you'll trip soooooo hard off that one. I would weight out 2-3 grams for your first trip. I mean if you think you want that kind of trip your first time do it.

Are those 100% dry? If they are (which I am assuming), then just eat like 3/4 of it. 5.2 grams coming from any part of the mushroom is a lot for a first trip. The potency is the same as pieces. I once had a 3.5 gram cap attached to a 7 gram stem: I Split the stem in half and was tripping balls.

I had a friend who thought he was a bad ass and downd a 4.5+ his first time(didn't weigh it out. but there was at least that in the bag.). he had no idea what he was in for.
now he refuses to ever take shrooms again. to bad for him, shrooms are the best thing in the world when taken responsibly.

No it would not likely be as potent simply because smaller mushrooms tend to contain more psilocybin then large mushrooms. This is why they are typically harvested right before the veil breaks. Therefore more nutrients are used to generate more small mushrooms that contain more psilocybin per weight. psilocybin varies greatly throughout a species, dependent upon the substrate and growing conditions. Hypothetically it could be as potent as a bag of small mushrooms although it is not likely.
Also are you sure it's cracker dry, because it really doesn't look like it is. If it is wet or not all the way dry you are really take a lot smaller of a dose. The general rule of thumb is almost ten times the weight for a completely wet mushroom, when contrasted to a completely cracker dry mushroom.

Typically, larger shrooms are less potent than an equal weight of smaller shrooms, but just eating that big one right there is asking for quite an experience. You will trip haaardd.
But hey, sounds like a blast.

Thanks guys! Coming from a shroom noob, your input means a lot. Yes, the shroom is dry and brittle (it almost broke when I was putting it away in my packback :O ). I would like my first trip to be responsible (that way I won't have any fears doing them later) so I will think I will do as the last post said; save it for my second trip  I'll just do about 3.5g from the other pieces I have.
But really, thanks guys. Will definitely make me sleep better. I was under the impression it wouldn't be very potent, and then it was making me wonder if I got ripped off. Which wasn't boding very well for me.
So, just for future reference, the drier the shroom the better?
