Hitch-hiking

I'm planning a hitch hiking trip from South Florida, to somewhere else, hehe. I'm still deciding my destination, gotta choose between Tallahassee, Orlando, Gainesville, and Key West.
Anyone have any comments or tips for a first-time hitcher? I've done a good amount of research, and I honestly don't think there's much chance for harm if I use even a shred of common sense, but I want to be as informed as possible. I figured my fellow shroomerites might have some unique insights into how to "have a good trip" (pun intended lol).

Well, unless there's a boat who'll let me hitch across the ocean, that's not happening heh. I'd love nothing better than to go to Ireland, but that's a big first-time hitch lol.

Get a bank card that you can stash easily. Put 100 bucks cash in your pocket and catch a train...Dude you want to talk about some scenery and other crazy shit do, that one.

Hell, that's an easy one! First you to to Keywest, then to Orlando, then to gainsville, then to Tallahasee! Go to "Home base" after each each trip.

Well, I know people in every place besides Key West. I could probably cut the Keys for now (save it for another adventure) and do it all in one trip, stay a night at each place going up, then again coming back down. A lot of my friends are doing summer sessions in state schools (UCF, UF, then FSU, which is where I'll be starting come end of August). But I'm still a complete newb, I feel overwhelmed with the choices I have about how and when and where to take my adventure.

Just find yourself some tracks in town. Then you sit there and smoke a joint and wait for the train to come. When it comes look for the type of cars its carrying to see if there are open boxcars or flatbeds. Once you figure that out you gotta find a spot where that train slows down long enough for you to catch it. One sleeping bag, a blanket,a short change of warm clothes, A fucking bat, bottle of wine, and some good doobage. I have taken vacations like this many of times and this kind of vacation is a trip!

So, how do you get off when you want to? I guess I don't have much experience with trains... in fact, I've *never taken a train lol. I'll have to do some research, but this sounds pretty interesting too. Plus, barring a coked out hobo in the same car as me (unlikely), no chance at all of getting stabbed or shot or raped. Definite plus

You should check out older threads about this and check out digihitch.com.
I've done many, many of hitches and know other shroomerites who have. I was surprised overall at how many didn't.
But, to say the least, it's fuckin' incredible.

Wow, that website is incredible! Thanks so much for the link.
Here's one question I feel ought to be asked here though- how safe is it to travel with illegal items like cannabis and a glass pipe with resin in the bowl? I'd like to take at least a small stash just for the occasional bowl here, bowl there, but I am worried about some cop pulling over and searching me, and that bowl is my favorite in the bunch (plus, I can't afford to be arrested for possession lol). In Florida it's not illegal to hitch, but cops here (and everywhere) can be capital DICKS sometimes.

hopping freight trains can be deadly, people have fallen under the wheels and lost arms legs and their lives.
have you considered greyhound?
if you hitchhike and have a cellphone, text the licence plate number to somebody who knows your hitch hiking and then tell the person you did it be safe

I've hitched around with two pieces and some bud. I buried it deep, deep in my bag.
As long as you don't do anything stupid or draw attention to you then there's no reason for a cop to search you.
There was at one point that I was walking along a freeway outside of Sacramento and some officers were pulling over telling me to exit. I thought they'd meet me at the exit and interrogate me, so I ditched my beautiful glass piece in a field. No cops were there.
Cops leave you alone for the most part. That was the only "run-in" I encountered (if you even want to call it that). There was even times of me holdin' my thumb out, a cop rides by and waves at me with a smile.

...oh, and if you're anywhere in Washington, Oregon or California I wouldn't worry about the law and you'll also get smoked out the whole way.
It seemed as if bringing my own bud was pointless. But, it was nice occasionally.
