microsoft torrents
    #8551425 - 06/22/08 05:26 PM (3 months, 14 days ago)

I'm forced to use office 2007 at work and school and i'm really starting to like the new interfaces. Even so, I can't justify spending $150 for the software for my home computer since I have 2003 that works fine and will be getting a new laptop within the year.

I've looked into torrents, and the software seems pretty available...but with a company like microsoft, i'm kind of hesitant to pirate anything. Aren't these types of files under heavy scrutiny?

I'm not looking for anyone to tell me whether I should download this torrent, just wondering what the risks are?

Very little risk.  It's done by tens of thousands of individuals every day.

And most 'busts' are done on individuals found supplying a huge amount of software. Really rare to get someone for simply downloading.

Alternately, consider a free option like OpenOffice. It works like a charm for me.

Yeah, they're right. I've downloaded a shitload of copyrighted software, including Office 07 and many versions of Windows and nothing has happned to me. Now these sorts of things should be illegal, but I do it anyway because I'm broke and can't afford to spend that much money on software.

i agree. it's crazy that they force everyone into upgrading with these shitty incompatability issues that plague the new office 07 suite.

Always use IP blocklists when downloading torrents just as an extra precaution. Check out PeerGuardian2.
