Panaeolus subbalteatus questions
    #8586680 - 07/02/08 03:08 AM (3 months, 8 days ago)

-----------------------
Whats the oldest lawn or oldest neighborhood you have found subbs or foes in, with as many details that you know such as how green/well kept the lawn was, do you know if it was fertilized with anything? Are the grass clippings left on the lawn or picked Up?
---------------------

Im sure they get smaller as the substrate gets less nutritious, but when you mow the lawn the grass clippings dry and decompose back onto the lawn... Psilocybe cubensis can grow off grass clippings (like hay just replaced), Psilocybe cubensis also grows on poop, and Pan subbs also grow on poop sometimes....  So can subbs fruit off plain grass also? like a grass log or grass substrate Golden Teacher on Lawn Clippings.

Ive heard reports of people finding subbs/foes on semi old lawns so i figured its either from all the lawn clippings from mows, or that plus fertilization or adding nutrients back to their lawn like sprinkled manure or something

Ive only found foes and subbs in manure in the back yard where the plants were... And i MIGHT have found subbs/foes on cow poop before...

I havent seen many new neighborhoods with newly sodded lawns... They are all pop up houses that use the field grass thats already there... i guess they try to put as many up for as cheap as they can...

i hope i can find some NEWLY sodded lawns but i dont know of any new ones so i might have to look at the older sodded lawns... any information on how long subbs fruit for would be appreciated...

sorry for rambling and shit but its pretty early in the morning and stuff...

I have had luck finding some on lawns that are 5 or more years old. I guess it really matters on how well kept and cared for the lawn is. I dont know the science behind it though. I have found quite a few on horse poo compost as well. In fact I use hpoo in my garden and I have them sprouting all the time.
I did a little experiment. I took a section of a freshly sodded lawn that had subbs growing on it and brought it home. I had laid down hpoo compost and some hay that was soaked. Then I laid down the sod on top of it. I think that they need good sun light to grow. I have my spot in a wooded area in my back yard and not a single one has sprouted. But at the same time I have them sprouting in a field that gets direct sunlight all day, those are on my compost pile. I am contemplating moving my lil project out into the light now. It gets a lil light but not much and it is not direct light.
