Bolete ID or Input
    #8586254 - 07/01/08 11:14 PM (2 months, 5 days ago)

Im new to hunting mushrooms, i know what i have found is a bolete but am not able to narrow it down from there, ill describe what i found and see what you guys think about it.

Habitat: Growing from pine needle covered ground, usually in areas surrounded by Jack pines, not sure if thats the official name for these pine trees.

Gills: The pores were like a pinkish color.

Stem: Whitish, quite thick and on average about 3-4 inches long.

Cap: A light to medium brown darkening towards the center, mostly a solid light colored brown though.
Flesh inside was white.

Spore print color: not sure i left them, i was just enjoying nature and saw them and ruled them to be some kind of bolete.

Bruising: None

Location: Picked in a forest in Southwest michigan.

If i was in my right mind at the time i would have checked for a volva, bitter taste, and web pattern on the stem. Im sorry for this low grade ID request haha, but i figured it might give some of you who enjoy boletes something to help me out with, i think it may possibly be a nice edible, so when i come across it again i will taste test it and take some pictures of it.

It could be a young Bolete where the spores have not started to turn color.  The pores on Boletes start out white or cream color and turn olive when the spores mature.

Make a spore print, Tylopilus will have a pink print.  When finding Boletes always check for blue bruising and a bitter taste.
