 can someone clear this up for me

alright ive gathered alot of information on here today and ive came up with the following. mostly what i have picked has been pan antillarum. i have got a few that were either a cope cyan or a pan caster. the blueing that i thought i was seeing was really darkening from putting them in plastic bags. i ate the antillarums thinking they were cyans, luckily they were edible... wont do it again. but i am sure that i had some active ones because i could feel a trip, and def remember seeing some with obvious blueing. im in norhteast florida by the way. any in put or correction would be appreciated

Probably a mix of Panaeolus cyanescens and Panaeolus antillarum.
Make sure that all of them blue where they are damaged...

i need to get straight on the blueing thing because i keep hearing different things. one person said that it could take up to 30 minutes to turn blue. then someone said like no longer than a minute and a half. and its unmistakingly blue right, i mean if im not sure if its blue or not then i should prolly throw it out,right?

bluing times can vary yes, but if you can't wait half an hour to eat the mushrooms you just harvested...

i havent found copes yet but...
Have you ever seen a cube blue? you know the first time you find a cube in the wild, and you bruise it to make sure its a cube and it turns green/blue in 10 seconds?
probably the same shit/feeling you will probably know it when you find a real cope

yea a cube was the first shroom i ever found. but i didnt know if the blueing would be the same... thx for the help

It wont be the same, but i hear once you see a cope blue you know its bluing
ive never found copes before so i dont know yet

i feel so stupid. i guess i just wanted them to be blue so bad that anything that looked remotly like blue i said was blue. i def remember my friend goin "oh shit, look how blue this one is dude". well now i know

blue is blue. not darker, not kinda might be blue. It's a pretty cyan in the white part of cubes, in copes it's a bit darker, because the copes have way more psilocybin that reacts when it's bruised, and I think the cells aren't as hearty as in cubes, so they damage much easier. You know the blue, though. It's one of those colors you just don't really find in anything else like that. Even the bluing in boletes isn't really like it is in active species. It's a different color, and it's subtle, but it's different.

I hunt copes in very heavily antillarum fields.
The plastice bag will delay the blueing on copes, sometimes after an hour or two of hunting, I pull out my finds to separate them (copes from Pan ants) and some shrooms that look like copelandia will not show bruising yet.
Let em sit in the open air for an hour, then cull out the baddies. It'll be easier. Pan ants never bruise blue or even close. Its more of a watery pink color at the cut sites, sometimes going to brown if they've sat awhile.
Copes turn a different blue than cubes. Its darker, more of what I would call a steely blue. Especially as they begin to dry. Copes and Pan ants can sometimes be morphologically the same (not usually). Look for slimy, corrugated caps (again, usually). Those are antillarum.
Antillarum also have much thicker stems (usually).
If you see what looks like black bruising on a mushroom that you'd swear is a cope, there is a good chance that is the steely blue your looking for, and sometimes it is not a lot. Sometimes its the whole damn cap.
Like Implee said, once you get the feel for it, go out on a few more hunts, you will better be able to tell the sometimes subtle difference between these two mush mush.
