Salvia ban starts Tuesday

 HARRISONBURG - Starting Tuesday, the herb salvia, which has psychoactive properties, will no longer be legal in Virginia.
The ban on salvia sailed through the General Assembly last session, receiving no opposing votes in either chamber.
The new law, which made salvia a Schedule I drug, made Virginia the 13th state to ban the substance, according to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency. Other Schedule I drugs include marijuana and heroin.
"It's a step in the right direction," said Special Agent Tom Murphy, who oversees the RUSH Drug Task Force. "It's a drug that teenagers are turning to, especially over the Internet."
An online search yielded several sites that offered salvia as low as $30 and others that showed video clips of users "tripping" after consuming the drugs.
Salvia divinorum, also referred to on the streets as Magic Mint, originally came from areas of the Sierra Mazateca region of Oaxaca, Mexico, according to the DEA.
The plant can grow to more than 3 feet tall.
Police say the most popular ways to ingest the drug is by smoking or chewing it.
Murphy said he hasn't dealt with any cases of salvia in the Valley and has only heard of one reported case.
In March, however, investigators with the CHARGE Gang Task Force found salvia while searching a suspected gang leader's apartment in Harrisonburg.

Hell yeah local paper w00t.
That "gang member" was just some punk kid who beat up little kids and called them beat ins. Wow the salvia in his room is the worst part right?
I wonder what the head shop is going to do?

I like how they say "theres only been one reported case" yet they are quick to respond with the second paragraph..

id tried salvia extact more than i can count and it brings me to the same exact dimension every time i do it. I had 20x and smoked it every day after school for a week then i had the most horrible trip ive ever experienced. A few minutes after i was arguing with my friend i had a bowl packed and was psyching my self up for the journey. because of the fight with my friend i wasnt in quite the right mind set. after waiting a minute to hit the bowl another friend of mind said "dude fuckin hit it already" in an angry tone. i then took two hits of the bowl and the trip started out like normal and then in what felt like a millisecond, every thought and feeling i had turned completely negative and i thought i was going to die. my arms started to feel like they were on fire. the fire traveled throughout my whole body and i was in excruciating pain but i knew that it would go away in a few minutes but a few minutes on salvia feels like a year. the trip finally subsided after about 8 minutes or so and that was the last time ive tried it and probably the final. i had underestimated the power of the hallucinogen and thought i could control the trip no matter what my mind set was or what was going on around me. Boy, did sally d let me know shes nothin to fuck around with. hope u enjoyed my story lol

im not trying to side with the government with banning salvia but i do agree that Salvinorin A(active chemical that causes the trip) is an extremely potent psychedelic. the thing that should help with not banning it nationally is the fact that most people will never try it again after there first experience because of it's intensity and many people who will try it cause they just think it will be a fun little high freak out and never touch it again. I'm from Pennsylvania and a kid in delaware commited suicide because of salvia according to teh news. What they failed to mention was that the kid had severe depression and was on medication that was known to increase suicidal thoughts in some patients. fuck the news and all it's propaganda. u can't blame that shit on salvia. HE wasn't even under the influence of it when he did it.
