Astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson (PBS / NOVA) talks about the counterpart to Intelligent Design, Stupid Design.

Quote:
So, what I want to put on the table is the fact that I don't want the religious person in the lab telling me that God is responsible for what it is they cannot discover..
You're in the lab and you say "I don't know how this works, no-one alive on earth knows how this works and no-one who will ever be born that will know how this works." So you put it down and go onto the next problem..
This is a segment of a segment from a program on the Science Network called "Beyond Belief". The program is 10 sessions long, each about 2 hours in length. You can watch / download them all at http://thesciencenetwork.org/BeyondBelief/watch/
Also, an excellent article regarding religion in science by Tyson from the Natural History magazine titled "The Perimeter of Ignorance - A boundary where scientists face a choice: invoke a deity or continue the quest for knowledge" can be found at http://research.amnh.org/~tyson/PerimeterOfIgnorance.php
-------------------- superstition
1: a belief or practice resulting from ignorance, fear of the unknown, trust in magic or chance, or a false conception of causation
2: a notion maintained despite evidence to the contrary

Intelligent Design always made me think...if these people were designed, why not design them to exhibit some form of common-sense and intelligence?
Apparently there have recently been some studies showing a negative correlation to intelligence and religious behavior.
These guys won't quit. Thats fine, because the pastafarians are gaining ground!!!
