 First time grower.. PF Tek

Ok. So I'm following the PF Tek method in Roadkill's video. I use the vermiculite and brown rice flour recipe, 1/2 pt jars which I cover with masking tape and tinfoil before I boil sterilize them for one hour. I inoculated the jars after letting them cool overnight. I made sure the needle was pressing against the glass. I flame sterilize the syringes initially and between each jar. I put the jars in a dark closet and the temperature of the rooms stays at about 80F. My first attempt had no results.. no growth at all. Not even contamination. I figured this was because I did not take off the masking tape and read later that I should take it off for gas exchange. So I took it off and still no sign of growth after two weeks.
I started a second batch, following the same method but this time removing the masking tape. Still no growth at all in over two weeks.
So I'm thinking maybe it was the spores I ordered that were bad? I got them from Sporestore. (I know.. NOW.. that I should have ordered from a sponsor)
So tonight I'm starting yet again.. this time I got my syringes shipped express from Ralphsters. I have Hawaiians, Brazilian, and B+.
I guess I'm wondering if anyone has any advice as to what else could have went wrong?

from my experience so far, PF is very slow. I read and watched the WBS tek and wow, that tek is good.

Water content was my problem at 1st. My 3rd time I got shrooms.I learned that its better to be a little to dry than to wet.
Good spores help a lot to.

Thanks.  I was worried about water content. They looked a little dry but I'm following the Tek so hopefully everything will work out this time.

There is your problem. I also tried my first grow from that company. First of all, the jars took FOREVER to colonize...if they did at all. Then they never went to fruit. I used that company prior to finding the Shroomery. Guess we all learn.
That place is a total rip off. Get some real spores from a Shroomery vendor. You'll be MUCH happier!

I believe it was the spore store. I ordered 2 syringes from them both contam. So like a dumbass ordered 2 more thinking it was something I was doing and followed the damn tek and they sat there for like 3 weeks and nothing ever grew. So I ordered from a sponsor and am now waiting. Good luck jAyYyYyY

Actually you don't need gas exchanges that early. Therefore, I believe this was not the issue.
Anyway, two weeks is a bit too long...
A tip though: People tend to forget little details about some processes. I mean, how did you flame sterilized ? The safest approach would be something like this
1) A cotton piece - or similar - with alcohol.
2) Clean needle with cotton piece.
3) Flame and let the needle become red hot.
4) Let it cool down.
5) Repeat number 2.
6) Inoculate.
Another issue. Getting optimal water capacity when mixing the substrate can be a matter of experience. Following PF Tek is a good start but then sometimes things can be trickier than you think. Sometimes things can depend on how coarse the vermiculite is...
As i do it: I let the substrate soak more than needed. Let it wait for a couple of minutes while mixing it it slowly. Then I squeeze it until it just pours some drops of water. Then mix it again to unpack it, and put it with a spoon inside the jars. Don't press it too tight, or nearly at all.

PF cakes are usually done with 2 parts verm, 1 part brf, 1 part water. Hasn't failed me anyways. There's no need for tape on cakes, just put a 1/4-1/2 inch layer of dry vermiculite in the top of the jar between the substrate and the lid. It filters contams out. If the syringe was bad use a shroomery sponsor

I agree it was probably the syringe. Next time however, sterilize the jars for 90 minutes and don't start the timer until steam is escaping from under the lid of your kettle. If you use micropore tape, you don't need to remove it.

Thanks for all the advice guys. I flame sterilized with denatured alcohol on a shot glass..before and in between each jar I inoculated. I also wiped the syringe with alcohol each time.
I am boil-sterilizing my new jars right now and will do it for 90 minutes this time.
