The great IQ debate!
    #8561544 - 06/25/08 08:07 AM (3 months, 11 days ago)

If you really want to know your IQ I have an accurate test. It doesnt involve any reading, math, (aside from some very basic arithmetic) or general knowledge, and it takes an hour to complete. It would take me a little time to get it into a distributable format, but if anyone really wants to do a comparison it might be fun.

Personally I suspect that you wont see much of a difference between atheist, and theist. It seems to me that those with higher IQ's were simply more likely to be atheist, not that atheist were more likely to have high IQ's. For example the ratio of atheist to theist in the US general population is about 1:25, (average IQ of 100) compared to the ratio of atheist to theist Mensa members 9:20 (you need an IQ of approximately 132 or higher to join).

As I said before, its not that all religious people are stupid, its just that most stupid people happen to be religious. There are allot of bright people here, especially in P&S, so I doubt we will find much if any of a difference. It might still be interesting though to compare a few other quality's though such as race, general philosophy, job, education, economic background, righty vs. lefty vs ambi, astrological sign, hair color, hobbys, politics......anything else you can think of, you get the idea. So anyone up for it.

Thoughts, suggestions......discus!

You know what would be MUCH more interesting to me? TO find out how people scored in correlation with their political stances...

Wouldn't you like to know how republicans fare verses Democrats? Or how about what kind of scores people who think 911 was an inside job might get? It would definitely be interesting to me...

I predict you have an IQ of 3.

You have to consider the context as well. For instance the percentage of registered democrats that went college vs. republicans. An interesting study might test the IQ's of both graduate students, and military academy graduates, and examine any correlation with political ideology.

My IQ isnt that hot, and I am an agnostic.  Maybe if I was smarter I could make a decision.  :crazy2:

He is himself his own World, his own Universe; of any other than himself he can form no conception; he knows not Length, nor Breadth, nor Height, for he has had no experience of them; he has no cognizance even of the number Two; nor has he a thought of Plurality; for he is himself his One and All, being really Nothing. Yet mark his perfect self-contentment, and hence learn his lesson, that to be self-contented is to be vile and ignorant, and that to aspire is better than to be blindly and impotently happy.

Two questions:

1. Where do agnostics fit in the theist:atheist ratio?

2. If one goes from atheist to agnostic does their IQ go up or down?

I dont know, but from that statement, I'm going to assume your a theist.:smirk:

Obviously being an atheist or theist doesnt make you any more or less intelligent. Realistically there are many other factors that need to be taken into consideration such as economic background, parental history, education...etc.

So anyone up for the test?

A shroomery wide IQ test would be really interesting, I wounder how it would stack up against the general population.

PM me, I'm working out the details. A time limit is important, so I will have to coordinate sending/receiving the test with anyone who takes it. An e-mail, or pm time stamp should take care of that though.

Any ideas as to what categories should be compared? So far I have.....
age
sex
location
religion
political ideology
drugs used currently, and in the past
education
job
income
parental info
siblings
dominant hand
musical taste
and general health questions such as height, weight, resting heart rate.

Intelligence quotients are used to find children in early schooling that need extra attention or assistance. Any other application of an IQ is laughable.

I guess that depends on what you mean by IQ, tests have changed drastically over the years. This one simply rates your ability to find patterns, and predict there outcome.

What do you mean by parental info, though? What is there to compare?

By "IQ" I mean intelligence quotient. Most modern intelligence tests use percentile ranks. Intelligence quotients use "mental age" divided by actual age times one hundred. (The mental age is the score from the test. It is called an intelligence quotient because the test score is divided by the age.) I'm willing to bet that your intelligence test actually uses percentile ranks with an average score of 100 and not an IQ.

hehe, I know what Intelligence Quotient means, and I understand how the tests work. You are correct, no one really uses the IQ ranking in the classical way any more, they just impose your percentile rank in a pattern recognition, spacial thinking, and creative problem solving test onto the gaussian bell curve using a center value of 100, and a standard deviation of 15.

I dont know if you've ever looked over any of the old IQ test, but they are pretty hilarious.

People call it an IQ test, that makes it an IQ test.

I dont think Bud Light is beer, but people call it beer so it is beer.
