my whole point is that experimenting does not make your music experimental.

so all these bands think that they can label themselves as experimental, when it isnt at all.

all this crap metal you guys are throwing out there has nothing to do with this thread and goes to just further my point regarding this issue.

So quick to judge music because of it's GENRE. You sir are a fucking idiot and the reason experimental music is so underground.

jesus, you douchebag, why dont you read my thread before you bust in posting shitty you tube videos.
try and get this point before you post in this thread again... experimental music is not a description of one bands experimentation with what they feel is unique or new.
My whole point in this thread is directed at people like you who like to talk out of their ass about music and mislabel it because they dont want their music to be classified as "just like that other band".
what a stereotypical metalhead... "d00d, you just dont get my music that lets me express my rage and contempt for life".
get over yourself... I listen to metal and could shove a shit ton of great metal bands, that would rip your face off, down your throat.

to cameron: yeah, I know.

to everyone: i realized the other day that even if I wasnt an insomniac riddled soul, that I have spent more time listening to music than I have slept.
I have studied music theory and composition, recording engineering, worked in multiple recording studios and venues, spent the last 3 years running live sound exclusively, toured north america with a major act and in my down time I find and lsiten to music... read auto/biographies of musicians i like (and dislike sometimes) and dont just listen to song and say "yeah, thats cool"... I research the history of the members, side projects, label troubles, influences etc...

I realize that I come off snobby and pretentious.. but I have fucking earned it.
now I havent explored with fervor every single sub genre out there, but I dont argue to argue or talk out of my ass... if Im going to make a thread about it, Im going to know what the fuck I am talking about.

and my credentials arent some trump card that I throw down to end a debate. I love debating music... but I find that when I try, it is always followed by someone trying to make value judgments about who I am and slinging ad hominems while saying "you sir are an idiot".
and I dont care if you call me an idiot, but back your position and your statements up with content otherwise you just look like the douchebag that you are.
k?

oh also... saying "you are the reason why experimental music is still underground" is just....dumb.

im sure I will need to walk you through it later, but something which is experimental is by default going to be underground.
why do you think pop music is called pop music?

just take a street interview and see how many people know who John Cage is.... when they dont know you should say "you are the reason why experimental music is still underground".

I say it because you can't think outside of genres, styles, and you have assumptions about EVERYTHING. "Experimental can ONLY BE THIS!!"

""do yourself a favor and stay away from "experimental" music. your time would be much better spent researching world music rather than some myspace dorks garage bands attempt at "blowing yur mindz!". - YawningAnus

This is fucking hilarious. Experimental music is not just some emo north americans you dumbfuck. Experimental is just an easier way to categorize the reject bands so they feel like they belong. Experimental MUSIC on the other hand is innovating new ways to create music not just structure but the actual sounds. Jimi Hendrix would wail his whammy bar in all kinds of directions for abstract sound patterns, use all kinds of feedback technique and picking patterns to get a different sound. Even though there was two hand tapping, NO ONE utilized it more then Eddie van halen on a song like eruption. THIS is experimental MUSIC, so don't disregard the thousands of people who play their experimental music at clubs every night, by saying were all a bunch of north american emo queers.

I dont think I ever once excluded any genre from being possibly experimental.

I think you just realized how wrong you are on this and keep trying to hold on to the bullshit definition you and your retard friends made up.
its fine with me if you want to try and coin an alternate definition for the term experimental... im just here to tell you that you are currently mislead and ultimately wrong about that description.

experimental music is that which challenges our currently held notions of what music is... kind of the same way that a guy eating a stillborn fetus challenges our notions of what art is.
two hand tapping and whammy bar action do not fall in this category. GG allin was more experimental than morbid angel and cannibal corpse... maybe even in both respects of aural and visual art.

one could even argue that Wesley Willis was experimental, with his one tune playing casio keyboard singing in his mentally challenged voice about sucking his dogs dick and how mcdonalds fucked him over once.

in conclusion... you are so wrong it is starting to be funny.
