Mold...damn it.
    #8529291 - 06/16/08 09:36 AM (2 months, 20 days ago)

Ive come to the conclusion that the majority of my jars have gotten mold.
So, heres my plan:

Dig an 8"-10" hole under my porch (shady). Fill 1-2" with hydrated horse compost, place all of my cakes in there, and fill the rest of the hole up with hydrated horse compost. Water daily.

Will this plan save my cakes from the mold?
I dont want to have wasted my time with these jars, and i figured putting them outside will allow them to finish colonizing completely and fruit.

What are all of your opinions on this?

That's what you're supposed to do.  There's no guarantee they'll recover outdoors, but there is a guarantee they won't recover indoors in artificial cultivation.

It's not a bad loss. A few jars. But it seems a little deep, ~6-8" below the soil line. Seems like it might be better to go for 4-6" from the bottom of the cake, (~7-5" total, depending on your jar).

Still, it is good to recycle.

Good luck.
