Finding new music?
    #8540642 - 06/19/08 12:28 PM (2 months, 17 days ago)

How do you find new music?

Right now I am in the need for new music. I listen to the same songs over and over again. I cannot find anything on the radio around here because its all country or classic rock.

Does anyone know any good website that give away free mp3's for bands? Better yet who knows some bands I might like under the catagory of Metal, Rock, Experimental. I tell you what I am up for just about any kind of music at this moment. Although I do like more agressive music that has something unique or experimental about it. Kinda like converge.

Hit me up with some ideas.

heh... Well I guess I just found my answer. Go to google and type in Pandora radio. Its neat. You can type your favorite band in and then it plays a radio station based on your likings.

There are a lot of great albums for download in the Avant-Garde Metal and Ambient / Experimental Album threads.

Please add a link if you like any.

Catalysts to say what has never been said, to see what has never been seen. To draw, paint, sing, sculpt, dance and act what has never before been done. To push the envelope of creativity and language. And whats really important is, I call it, the felt presence of direct experience. Which is a fancy term which just simply means we have to stop consuming our culture. We have to create culture. Don't watch TV, don't read magazines, don't even listen to NPR. Create your own roadshow. The nexus of space and time, where you are now, is the most immediate sector of your universe. And if you're worrying about Michael Jackson or Bill Clinton or somebody else, you are disempowered. You are giving it all away to icons. Icons which are maintained by an electronic media, so that you want to dress like X or have lips like Y. This is shit-brained this kind of thinking. That is all cultural diversion. And what is real is you and your friends, your associations, your highs, your orgasms, your hopes, your plans, and your fears. And we are told no. We're unimportant, we're peripheral, get a degree, get a job, get a this, get a that, and then you're a player. You don't even want to play in that game. You want to reclaim your mind and get it out of the hands of the cultural engineers who want to turn you into a half-baked moron consuming all this trash that's being manufactured out of the bones of a dying world. Where is that at? -Terence

Pandora is the shit if you wanna stick to one style of music and explore from there, however most of the Newly Released music takes time to find its way onto the database

Possessed, Obituary, Morbid Angel, and Death.

I don't listen to metal anymore not since the original Sepultura broke up. I'm sick of these gay bands like "Lamb of god" and "Devildriver". The new slayer album is fucking killer though, but it's just classic slayer put in a new but awesome way.

Devil Driver had a couple songs that I liked. Especially the song "knee deep" I love the lyrics. I do not like their new music though. Why do you dislike lamb of god? I thought out of all the new metal bands that you would like them? I love them. I love their galloping guitars. 11th hour

i know the quality is shit, but just searching for a specific genre on limewire is a quick and easy way to find new artists. The same works for regular torrents, but my ISP throttles the downloads, making it slow, and you generally have to download a full album that way.

The guitar work for Lamb of god is utter shit. I enjoy a few solos from Mark on songs like pathetic, but otherwise it's just generic metalcore. This one is for the real metalheads Slayer, Sepultura, Possessed, Obituary, Morbid Angel,  Death.

you can't download from pandora, but it is an online streaming radio.

I use it to find artists and albums similar to what I already know I like

+1 last.fm and soulseek

at last.fm search for artist and use the "similar artists" link.

in soulseek look for user's with similar tastes and browse their folders.  sometimes you get really lucky and find someone with almost identical taste and a huge file list... take a screen shot of all their files and search for the artists on last.fm to sample the music.

another good method is to search the archives at music forums.  "favorite [genre]" etc.

Interesting. You sound like an old school metal head if I am correct. As in you have been listening to metal longer than me or your older. Ever hear botch or converge? I like converge for their creativeness.

I'm a fan of any kind of metal that has real feeling to it. The difference being a solo from Sepultura has feeling and power in it. A solo from a gay band like Devil driver is just guitar wanking until it fits the profile of a metal solo. I've never heard of neither of those bands, but as long as they have heart I'd listen to it.
