 Resource Analysis of a e-commerce

does anyone have any backgroud with ecommerce sites and if so what resources you need to start one.

Well the e-commerce side of things doesn't really require a lot of resources... you can use free software like osCommerce, accept credit cards through Paypal without any initial investment, and get your own domain and hosting for under $10/month from someone like Bluehost. For certain products you don't even need to do that, eg. if you want to sell clothing you can use Printfection, Zazzle or Cafepress (which also has things like posters and stationary), if you want to sell books you can use Lulu, if you want to sell music you can use CD Baby or TuneCore, and they handle pretty much everything for you. The hard part is the same as it's always been, coming up with something people are willing to pay for.

given the idea is to sell music online, is that all im going to need?

A big sized lawyer will help as well. You will be going up against the RIAA; an organization that has determined that "digital" does not exist and will do whatever it takes to destroy anybody that tries to show otherwise.

check out Banco de Gaia's site.. he's has all his music available for download straight from his site  & gets all the $ without anyone taking a % !!! like iTunes or any other like music site will do
the site is probably a template ?
merchant account - normally just a business account with a bank 
payment processing - there are many.. just find the cheapest & most suitable one for you
