My cacti don't seem very healthy *PICS*

Hey all, had these little mofos for about 9 months. 3 san pedros and a little peyote. Thing is i've noticed that the near where it touches the soil they have become kind of brown and wrinkley.

Too much water? Not enough? I've watered very sparingly for the last 4 months.
I've never grown cacti before so any help is appreciated, thanks!

brown and wrinkly definitely doesn't sound good, are they soft to the touch also? do the pedros lean over more than they used to?
what kind of soil are they in? they all should be in soil that contains mostly lava rock with a little manure and other things. especially the peyote, peyote likes florida crushed coral alot too.
do you keep them on those plates that go beneath the pot to retain water? if so don't.
if it is hot then you can water the pedros quite a bit, and they actually like it. in missouri, where in june-july to august it gets real hot and REAL humid, i water my pedros everyday, and they love it. never done the peyote but i'm pretty sure they like it a bit drier.

yeah, those pics do like you have some rot going on in the pedros, you need to cut them off a good inch above the rot with a CLEAN AND ALCOHOL STERILIZED very sharp knife. then let the wound dry and callous over before repotting, and when you do repot, don't water for a few weeks.
can't help you on the peyote though, sorry.

I have found a lot of the same to be true. My Pedro's sit in the Arizona sun all day everyday and I water them 2-4 times a week. I also use Shultz Cactus Fertilizer and she has been LOVING that also. It seems to be a common misperception that cactus dont like nutrients.
The pots you cactus are in look very small, I would do a cutting how grymm said and repot them into some larger pots or even in the ground if possible.

cool, thanks for the replies guys, I guess i'll need to go ahead and do a cut and repot. Do you think once I've done that I could graft the peyote onto one of the pedros?

no, because you would have to wait for the pedro to re-establish its root system in its new pot before you put the peyote on top of it since the peyote would be living off of the pedro. the pedro would probably not be able to host another plant while it is expending energy in expanding its roots.
and only if the peyote is not too big for the pedro.

you may not need to cut the pedro, just unpot it and clean the roots of all that stuff and leave it on a table for a day to let the roots dry. then repot and dont water for a week, see how it looks, it may recover fine. and if no tthen give it the chop...but it doesn't look THAT bad to me.
