No, I think 40 years would ruin anyones life, so ruining two peoples lives would be pointless (albeit a nice sentimental gesture).  You enter prison in your early to mid twenties, and you exit in your early to mid sixties. You've just missed your career, your family... your entire life! Now you are institutionalized, the world scares you, and you'll probably end up killing yourself.
I *would* feel bad for the guy, though.
