Appartment insurence inspector

I'm having a major melt down heading my way tommorow at 6pm, my landlord with a insurence inspector is coming by to do a appraisal or something.
My closet is jam packed with colonized rye grain, I also have a few tubs and a bucket or two fruiting, has anyone ever had to deal with a insurence inspector coming by for a inspection? any tips or advice, like, what do these guys usally do and for long? need to calm my mind right now.

do you have a car? put all yout shit in there under a blanket around 12 tomorow (just to be safe). clean your apartment. i'd stay there if you can so they don't go poking through your shit.
don't take the risk and leave anything in your house.

This is what sucks about living in an apartment. I too had an unexpected visit just recently. They came in un-announced to measure my closet doors for replacement. I had an empty tub in tub incubator set-up. Luckily it was empty but I am sure it looked suspicious.

Most of the time (In my experience), these inspections are pretty quick unless something is really messed up.
It isn't a search -- They shouldn't be digging around your stuff. They'll looking at the actual apartment, doors/windows/walls/carpets/lights/etc.. Putting your stuff in a big storage bin or two would probably suffice if you don't have a car and don't want to dump them. If it's covered, it shouldn't be opened by the inspector. Of course that'd be pretty ballsy. I'd move them or dump them.

You should be fine if they are not out in the open. Make sure you are there so you can tell them not to go through your stuff and explain that you are growing shiitake, though that will probably not be necessary.

Dont worry at all, they will only check whats necessary, if you hide them youll be ok. Ive had many inspections before, i just hide evrything that i dont want them to see. Even chuck everything in a box, that wont get inspected

how do they know if they aren't edibles? last time i checked, it isn't against the law to grow edible mushies.

yea true, though if an inspector sees shrooms growing, im sure the real estate agent will know about it, then the landlord will be informed and might want their property searched. Its happened plenty, and real estate agents can be dicks. Best to just keep them outa sight

Just make your closet into what it is, a place to put everything.
If they come in they are just looking at the structure for city, and insurance reasons, put your stuff in the back of closet and put clothes, towels blankets, whatever is handy over the stuff.

I have a friend that used to grow edibles for high end chefs in his area. Somebody saw him "selling mushrooms" and called the cops. Long story short, $35,000 later in legal fees and destroyed equipment, the police/courts decided he wasn't guilty of a crime and dropped the case.

I had the same problem whenever my landlord was showing my apartment a few months before I moved out. I just threw a blanket over everything when I knew people would be there and left it sit in the corner of my bedroom. One day, they caught me off guard when my girlfriend left them in while my tubs were fruiting and everything was out in the open, so I just acted casual and nobody suspected anything. You should definitely hide it, but you don't have to go overboard. Some guy isn't going to see some moldy looking jars or a tub full of dirt and think that you're growing illegal drugs as long as you hide anything that's fruiting. The only thing I ever did that evoked suspicion was forget to put away a spore syringe, but luckily some rube believed it was my dog's flea medicine.
