check out this poppy that grew wild in the back garden, its got 42 heads, i know you are meant to prune some so the others grow bigger but for this one i decided to leave them all grow
anyone else get poppies with this many pods? im deffo collecting seeds from this
and while im at it theres a pic of my ornamental tobacco in flower

put some flowering fert around that pronto.
in about a week you'll want to see is gets no water for a while, so do it now! It will make good use of it

yep 42 . . well maybe more, when i counted i got to 40 and there were still a few left, only small flowers though.
haha douglas adams poppy, took me a few to get that,
it grew wild in the garden, they do every year, it started late last summer, too late for it to flower so it lived overwinter and flowered this summer. it probably grew so big since it was already large enough in spring while all the other poppies were only emerging from seed.
i only watered it once, the water had miracle grow in it about 2 weeks ago.

flowering fertiliser? like miracle grow you mix with water?
and do you mean dont give it water while its flowering?
i wont be able to insure that, it rains 300 days a year

well, watering dilutes the alkaloids, rain can actually wash them from inside the plant.

i think its 3 to 4 months from from seed to pod,
id say im just going to collect heads for tea, last count there were 26 pods out and swelling nicely with about 24+ heads yet to flower . ... so its looking more like a 50 headed poppy!

for proper closure, strong wind blew the poppy over and cracked the root, it started to die well before its time  so i harvested what was there, 62 pods! 
about 8 of them are small because they didnt get to mature but the rest are ok,
