    #8511547 - 06/11/08 01:15 PM (3 years, 11 months ago)

My friend just called me up and said he had a trip and a half left of some blue foots, I didnt know much about mushrooms but I said Id buy them, I do some research and see how rare they are.  Now Im real excited and hope they are for real.  Btw I live in the northern panhandle of West Virginia.  Hopefully once I pick them up Ill post the pictures for interpretation

Good idea.  Its really rare that those things get sold.  They should have dark purple brown gills and blue stains on the stems.

Two species are often referred to as "Blue Foot", Psilocybe caerulipes and Ps. ovoideocystidiata.

So far, all of the recent "Blue Foot" finds documented on this forum that have been analyzed have been Ps. ovoideocystidiata, and the ones which have not been examined microscopically have fit more closely with Ps. ovoideocystidiata macroscopic characteristics.
This suggests that Ps. caerulipes is much less common than Ps. ovoideocystidiata. Despite the fact that the name "Blue Foot" actually applies to Ps. caerulipes, many people have mistaken the Ovoids for Blue Foot.
