“I’m saddened by today’s verdict. This isn’t the Tony Rezko I knew, but now he has been convicted by a jury on multiple charges that once again shine a spotlight on the need for reform. I encourage the General Assembly to take whatever steps are necessary to prevent these kinds of abuses in the future.”

His comments were not only divisive and destructive, but I believe that they end up giving comfort to those who prey on hate, and I believe that they do not portray accurately the perspective of the black church."

I don't follow the logic either.
Most of us have had friends we disagreed with, sometimes heatedly. We need a bit more than "guilt by association" for a politician. Politicians know a lot of people.

Dude, among Barack Obama's most intimate spiritual mentors and closest friends are Jeremiah Wright, Michael Pfleger, and Tony Rezko. He has known each of them for more than fifteen years. Over the past few weeks, Obama has made public statements suggesting that over the years he failed to discern the offensive qualities that have made them notorious. He somehow really didn't know them very well. And let's not even talk about Ayers and Dohrn!
This empty suit is running on nothing more than his judgment. He has no experience, no accomplishments to point to, no substantive differences in policy from Hillary - he's telling us all he'll just do the same stuff she would do, but better! Cuz he's a better judge of character, better at reading situations, you name it.
Yet his assessment of Iraq was as wrong as it is possible to be, and his judgment in choosing associates has been shown to be laughably inept. He showed zero judgment with his line to the San Fran elite about bitter clingy bible-thumpin' gun nuts in Pennsylvania. The man is a walking gaffe machine who makes Dan Quayle look like Albert Einstein.
If he's so shocked - shocked I tell you! - at the behavior of his old buddies, imagine how flabbergasted he'll be when Ahmadinejad bitchslaps him?

The point is that Rezko was a well known sleazebag in Chicago politics. For Obama to pretend he's just discovered this and is shocked - shocked I say! - is either disingenuous or stunningly naive.
Same with Rev. Wright. It's not like this guy just started preaching these unhinged sermons, he's been doing it forever. Famous for it, in fact. For Obama to pretend he's just discovered this and is shocked - shocked I say! - is either disingenuous or stunningly naive.
So he's either lying or he's too gullible to be allowed into the Oval Office.

Too bad he doesn't have good judgment like McCain who chose a pill-head wife who used their non-profit organization to feed her addiction. That can't be the women he knew for all those years.

Compare that to McCain's close relationship with an international terrorist who endorses torture and you'll see that a reverend who feels slighted by the status quo oppression of black Americans and a corrupt politician (who woulda thunk it) are not real issues at all. You say he's wrong about the Iraq war, but the truth is that the Iraq war is a tool of criminals to establish, in essence, an American colony in the middle east so we can have an easier time suckling on the oil teet. You think he doesn't have good judgment, yet here he unseated a Democratic powerhouse, practically royalty, because of the campaign decisions he made. The "bitter" speech was not a bad judgment, it was a ballsy yet honest appraisal of American sentiments in rural areas. That is exactly the kind of quality I want in our leader, someone who is going to have the courage to say what everyone else is afraid to so that we, as a nation, can resolve these issues in a beneficial manner.
McCain would turn this country into a 3rd world shithole with a massive gap between the extremely rich and the very poor. If America's economic trends continue as they have with Bush (and I can GUARANTEE they will if McCain is elected and more billions are funneled into Iraq) then we face a disintegration the American middle class as the dollar becomes worth less then toilet paper

LOL! Every day when I wake up and check the newsfeeds, I'm more than half expecting to see a headline of Obama saying just that about his wife. It's almost a coin toss she'll be the next one tossed under the bus. Now that he's got the Dem nomination locked up, he really has to put that blithering cow in a locked box somewhere, or she'll lose the election for him faster than Billy Jeff blew the nomination for the Hildebeast.\

No, you are wrong about their relationship Phred.
Jeramiah Wright was his reverend, big deal. He has a lot of clout, and rightly so, so he helped Obama, who he saw potential in. To say that this implies that Wright had anything more than a business style relationship with is just bringing it too far. Honestly, Obama is a politcian, we all know he probably didn't hardly set foot in that church more than 3 times a year. Lets not kid ourselves, Wright is an influential black leader looking out for the interests of his people. Obama wasn't his bosom buddy, he was his prized sow.
Tony Rezko had money, Obama needed money, shit happened, Obama gave all the money back, end of story. They weren't workout partners or walking buddies, they were businessmen.
Its not like Obama had constant exposure to these people. Wright's "unhinged" sermons are only unhinged because you say they are. Its just a blanket statement that you use as a fall boy for your feeling of cognitive dissonance. Obama moved to Illinois after living in a few other places, he may not have necessarily known Rezko was shady, I doubt someone like Rezko would seek to portray a criminal image to people around him on purpose, thats what gets a guy caught.
Obama is being neither disingenuous or deceitful.
Also, PA Gun nuts. What, do you honestly think he was wrong? I live in rural PA, and I'll tell you, people here fucking cling to guns and religion because they're too stupid to do anything else. Can you disagree with this statement with anything more than unpremised disgust? I doubt it, not if you've experienced it.

The problem with this year's election is that Obama absolutely MUST be defeated, or the US will be uber fucked. Unfortunately, since no third-party candidate (no, not even the legendary Ron Paul) has any realistic chance of winning the Presidency, defeating Obama would necessarily require McCain to be elected next president of the US - a prospect only slightly less disastrous than an Obama presidency.
Is McCain a good candidate? Fuck no - not even close! Unfortunately, life doesn't always present us with a choice between good and bad. Often the best we're offered is bad or worse. Bad as McCain is - and make no mistake about it, McCain is bad - Obama is even worse.
I'm glad I'm not eligible to vote in the US elections, because I would (as always) vote third party rather than for the Dem or Repub candidate, but then I'd feel guilty if Obama won because too many folks voted third party. But then I'd at least be able to tell people a year down the road when he'd already fucked things up, "Don't blame me - I didn't vote for the cretin."
I go on record right now as urging all of you to vote third party for president this year, too. Unless you're afraid that by doing so you'll allow Obama to win and you can't live with that. Then I guess it would be okay to hold your nose and vote McCain.

I'll one up you and just vote for Obama.
What on earth scares you so much about him? What is the problem with him associating closely with a reverend who preaches to an impoverished black audience about the systematic injustices they face on a daily basis? What exactly is going to happen to uberfuck America if we elect Barack?

It's not just guilt by association, zorbman, and you know it isn't. Get some honesty!
It goes directly to what kind of man Obama is. If you surround yourself with fools and scoundrels, it shows you are either one yourself or you're too freaking stupid to recognize one when you see him. Neither option (and there are just the two) gives us much confidence in a man running for the presidency.
Remember, these aren't people he was just introduced to last year, they've been an integral part of his political life since the very beginning of that political life. It's not as if he didn't have ample opportunity to wake up and smell the coffee.
