 Just got myself another sweet job

So today I had a job interview with the captain and chief engineer on board another cargo vessel running out of a bay somewhere in my area. They pretty much gave me the job on the spot. I'll be CAT/TIR (shit kicker), raking in a salary packet at $67k a year until they ship me back off to the AMC to do my IR ticket, where I'll earn up to $120k p/year afterwards, which I should have by the end of next year.
Things are fucking looking up, they seem like a good crew. 12 of us, captain is a top bloke, happy crew is happy ship.
Start on Monday, month on month off, permanent until such time... can't fucking wait!

once you get into the swing of it, it's really not that hard. I've worked on another ship out of my home town here for about 8 months now and did month swings. It makes it all worth it when you have the month off afterwards paid leave.
Beats 2 day weekends :P

Crazy, I got a job on the spot yesterday also, but I'm going to be working for some Real Estate company.
I'm gonna be on opiates every day of work! Yay!

Ha, it's not as good as it sounds. Basically I'll be Trainee Integrated Rating/Caterer. Doing like 3 jobs in one.
As a TIR I'll be keeping watch on the bridge and in the engine control room, operating cranes dropping freight off the ship, anbd as a caterer I'll be doing stores and galleyhand. Basically the ships little bitch, but earning fucking awesome kesh doing it!

I have AMSA sea safety cretificated (fire fighting, marine evacuation, survival training etc) which is basically all you need for such a position. it's a 2 week course at the maritime college.

I'm not sure what it's like in the US, but over here, our Maritime Union is the strongest union in the country and will back you to the grave.
Definately give it a go. I never would have dreamt of working at sea, never saw myself as a mariner but since starting i can't see myself doing anything else.
It is always an awesome career move for those of you who lack the discipline for the navy

You will earn fuck all money on US cruise ships, they rort their crew like nothing else. A friend of mine who I work with worked on The Sapphire Princess which was run by an American cruiseline company (carnival) and was earning $300USD a week (as opposed to $700-1000 a week on Aus ships) with minimal leave, but still said it was an absolute blast because of the parties the crew had.

for those of you that get sea sick...
this cruise ship lost all engine power and the stabilisers were completely fucked when this hurricane hit it.
so lucky it didn't sink... check it at 1:05
