My week in the psych ward

Sometime toward the end of april my psychiatrist put me on paxil and it made me extremely anxious and suicidal and I had to go to the psych ward (i'm not a newbie to the psych ward this would be my fourth visit to the psych ward in the past 5 years) It was a really horrible experience and there were lots of crazy people there. They didn't do much for me and took me off two medications that i've been taking for 5 years cold turkey. I'm finally feeling better from the withdrawl symtptoms and still feel pretty foggy but am otherwise better. The medications I came off of were seroquel and lexapro which I took for 5 years and my doctor replaced my buspar with klonopin which that withdrawl was hell. I'm finally feeling less anxious. What i'm wondering is why do they just cut you off medications you've been taking for years? Later fellow shroomerites

Normally with anti depressants like lexapro they slowly cut your dose down so that its not such a huge shock to your system. Because your body gets so used to the drug helping it to release the happy chemicals when the drug is removed the body doesn't know how to release them properly by itself, this can cause horrible depression. So usually slowly cut down the dose so the body has time to adjust.

They took him off the meds that made him suicidal. Some people's reaction to certain antidepressants is suicidal thoughts. Its common and they even mention that risk in TV commercials and other ads for those drugs.
It sucks that a psychiatrist will lock you up for a week because you had a bad reaction to the medication that he recommended for you.
