Just found out today that cities in Rhode Island are banning Pits, and any dogs with pit-like characteristics. They're literally getting warrants and going door to door. Fucking amazing.

Right? I like the part in the article where he says that they've encountered some animosity when they show up to take people's fucking pets. Ya think?! I would lose my mind if someone showed up with a warrant to seize my dog based on its breed. What utter fucking garbage.

from what i've seen, the only people that own pit bulls are young adult males. now i know this isn't always the case, but for the most part it holds true (at least around here). even my friends who claim to own them just to have a pet and say how gentle and sweet they are will occasionally bring up how "bad ass" their dog is. now i ask why don't you see a lot of older people with pits. is it because they've gotten over the idea of being "hard" or "tough". most older people don't give a damn how "bad ass" the next person thinks they are. but young adult males do feel a need for respect. many of em get that feeling through their pits, rotweilers, etc...

i love pitbulls and i agree they are one of the nicest breed of dog ive come across.
saying that though, i think its a few reasons for the way a dog turns out, for instance the way its treated growing up and what it grows up surrounded by etc.
and its also being cautious, like not letting your young child (that would slash could potentionally do what a child does and poke n grab n shit) play around with an animal known for randomly attacking.
thems me 2 cents

That's not the case around here. Many families I know own them, and I think a lot of people get pitbulls for their families if they had one growing up because they know how great they can be as pets. We adopt pits out all the time to families, and not just young guys who want them as a status symbol.

as a young adult male, i can see this as true, but i want a pit bull for everything about them. im not worried about looking like a bad ass, i just like the pit breed.
there is no such thing as a bad dog, just bad owners. all the pits i have met are awesome, loving, loyal dogs. if you think that a pit is a bad dog because it is a pit, your fucking dumb.

There is no breed called a Pit Bull. It is "American Pit Bull Terrier". Pitbull is a generic slang term used to describe a look of dog usually found on the streets/backyards of inner cities etc...Pit Bulls just a cool name for similar dogs with a certain build, color, frame, look etc....Real American Pit bull Terriers should never be bred for looks, color or shape/ size???it was originally bred to be a fearless game bred dog and loving to humans...cross breeding it changes what was originally bred into the breed...
not breeding "proven" solid game dogs to other game dogs just like it changes things like Animal aggression. Animal aggression is not the same as human aggression.
Animal aggression is PREY DRIVE. When we have a breeding done here and a dog were ever to show human aggression it would immediately be culled and removed from the breeding program since manbiters are not allowed and by history were strictly eliminated from the breed. This is also why APBTs usually dont make good guard or watch dogs because they love all people...it is also frowned upon to train them to be human aggressive since it has always been something we bred out of the breed
On the other hand anyone around the breed can testify that at a certain age just like with male humans... the dogs, male or female,... will "turn on" and not be a push over puppy anymore and is succeptable to starting fights with other animals. We do not punish any pitbull who shows prey drive or animal aggression, IMO it would be akin to trying to beat the desire to follow a trail out of a Bloodhound and is totally a breed specific trait you cant change.
The lawmakers and ignorant people in this world cant understand that a dog will do anything its commanded to do or genetically bred to do...this does not mean it will kill you or your kids just because it loves a scrap with another dog or animal...We bred these dogs for 150 years to be game and aggressive and to hunt with us...
and then to come home and be a family member at the end of the day, we did this from selectively breeding game solid minded individuals and when people start breeding all kinds of dogs for looks and names you lose traits you added over 150 years time and you make dogs with no guaranteed mental or physical habits, then bite rates go up and the name gets tarnished from a bunch of inferior bred dogs with a name "Pitbull".
Just because it shares a common look dont make it a real american pitbull terrier and calling anything that looks like one a "pit" is assuming it has a good breeding record from a reputable kennel, then the dog bites someone and all dogs bred good or bad get outlawed with BSL because of how they look not how their bred...even the good ones get punished...
...its bullshit its something I been fighting for years and is just another thing the Govt thinks it can control out of fear... Back yards breeders and ignorance has created this phenomona from breeding inferior animals that look like "pits" to sell for profit...
breeding for nothing but profit as a puppy mill should be outlawed, not any breed...punish the deed not the breed...Why would the APBT go from a all american dog in the little rascals and be advertised on the AMerican flag in WW2 proaganda as "not wanting to fight but not willing to back down" and being the only dog to receive medals in the War...and the only breed to win the "superdog" convention...and all the sudden within a generation go to being the devil dog incarnate? It use to be an all desired farm and family dog you could trust 100%...now look what is is... It all has to do with what people are breeding and calling APBTs, the bar has been lowered from what it once was...

they call them pit bulls because they were used in a sport called "baiting" were dogs would fight a bullread more here
