I know people say this all the time, but my musical tastes truly span a wide variety of genres and subgenres. I like jazz, indie (doesn't get much broader than that as a genre), an extremely limited selection of hard core from my early teen days, underground rap/hip hop, limited electronic music, I'm starting to dabble in folk (Bob Dylan has always been one of my favorite artists for personal reasons), old surf rock, rock 'n roll roots music like Fats Domino, funk, jazz/funk fusion, late 80s-mid 90s alt rock like Pixies or Sonic Youth, classic rock, early mainstream hip-hop/rap, blues (more like jazzy blues such as Jimmy Smith), early blues roots, soul, so on and so forth.

I like everything you listed that I've gotten a chance to listen to. The Pixies are great.
I don't get it why people have to be egotistical snobs about their music tastes. How can something so subjective be compared in value?

While I do completely understand and respect the idea of subjectivity along with other peoples' music tastes, there is a part of music (or any art, really) that is objective. A sixth grade orchestra just isn't going to be good, no matter how you cut it. Some people are better than others because of their technical ability and knowledge of music theory.
Notes need to be in tune, there are certain things that fit in certain chord progressions and time signatures, balance between instrumentation. I could go on and on, I think you get the point.

Perhaps this will make it a little more clear.

hahah... I'm not lost on the objectivity of it. It's only natural everybody disagrees on matters of taste.
I agree about the technical aspect of what makes good music good. I have refined tastes for my favorite grooving music... I get off on music that impresses me... Music that colors an EXPERIENCE when listened to.
But yeah, all I was really going off about before was about the way you implied my music tastes weren't "good" because they vary so much from yours. I listen to technically and aesthetically awesome music. My tastes are obviously different than yours but the artists I appreciate are all very talented.

little nephew to Disneyland, but instead I drove him to an old burned-out

He cried and cried, but I think that deep down, he thought it was a pretty
good joke.
I started to drive over to the real Disneyland, but it was getting pretty
late.
