what do you see in your dreams?

the post yesterday about dreams or dreams being inhibited made me want to re-learn what knowledge i had about dreams from when i took psychology few semesters back. so i did a little research.
we'll start with a little background info. okay dreams take place during rem sleep which is the 5th stage of ones sleep cycle. the amount of rem sleep increases through the night and stages 3 + 4 get shorter and shorter. you go through multiple cycles per night. now for theory since a lot of info concerning dreaming is still up in the air.
Frued - he believed dreams were based on repressed desires that were taboo in society. lots of sex and symbolism
Jung - student of frued. followed the same path as his teacher for the most part. he differed in the fact that he thought dreaming was a method of reflection and or a way to solve problems and think through issues.
Hobson and McCarley - these two threw out the idea of psycho analysis. they believed that during rem your brain is accessing random memories and areas. this imagaes or memories do not create the dream, but your waking mind creates a story to makes sense of all these random images still in short term memory. so by their theory, it is only possible to remember the most recent images from rem creating the dream.
i think hobson and mccarley have it right. i often argue their theory when talking about dreams because it made the most sense to me when learning about it so i remembered it.
Random Dream Facts -dreams last from 5 to 20 minutes -those blind from birth have dreams formatted around their other senses -people dont snore while dreaming -some animals sleep standing up, but have to lie down during rem sleep
which theory do you guys like? or other discussion of dreaming is welcome.

I think their may be a lot of symbolism behind our dreams, but sometimes I'm convinced that its just random shit put together into stories.

i just feel like it has to be randoms shit just stringed together. what dreams i do remember never seem to make any sense. the other night i had on that i got pissed of because a roommate was downloading all the same music as me. awake and coherent, id be happy to share yet in the dream i was about the situation
input from psych majors would be cool too. i know there are some on here. chime in!

Hobson and McCarley always made the most sense to me. I think you could interpret any dream to mean almost anything so for me the Freudian theories don't work.

wow thats rel interesting shit about dreams. I love learning stuff like that and Id have to agree that Hobson and MCcarley got it more right...but where do old dreams lay in that theory if your bringing it all from short term?

images fromt old memeories that were accessed during rem from different parts of the brain are stored in short term memory, and that is what you brain has to work with when you wake up according to the hobson and mccarley theory....i think

oh ok, that does make sense, it might be an old memory but when you rethink of it it goes back into short term temporarily and you can access it in REM? That is the just of it if im understanding it all correctly...this is interesting I even just did a search on google and found all kinds of stuff about all those guys...

What if dreaming is a DMT flash of archetypal images presented as a personal narrative?

you sure it wasnt dejavue or however the fuck you spell it? dejavu is actually your brain skipping like a record. you get that this has happened because it goes through your brain twice. im remembering this from a long time ago so i encourage others to look it up and prove me wrong if i am.
as for Penguarky Tunguin...i have no clue.

dude i know what de javu is.
i had a dream that came to real life months after i had it.
in one dream i prayed for god to help me and i woke up. the later in life it happened and i was like oh shit i seen this in a dream, the same scene and people. (this was the second time it happened)
in another dream i also prayed for god and woke up, then it happened in real life and i was shocked to the point i didn't move for a half a minute or so. (this was the first time it happened)
does fruid cover this type of dream state???
i also had a dream that came to real life yet this time i was in some one elses body. the weird part was in was my friends girl friend. i even had some kinda conversation with her in her own head. i was conscious and i was wondering why i was holding some dudes hand (i couldn't make out the fact that i knew these people). i asked my self who the hell is this ( the person that was next to me) and the girl answered he just some dude. the it was funny cause i felt like i was in some kinda vessel.
at one point the girl was about to fall and i took control off the body cause i didn't want the girl to crack her head on the concrete. i kinda fell on my back and slid that way she didn't get hurt. as i was in her mind i was laying on the floor like thinking thank god I'm not hurt, well then i see some one come and pick me up but i couldn't make out the identity of the person or people i was with.
months later i was in Las Vegas with my friends for new years and he was with his girl and they were holding hands and what not and i felt this familiar feeling, then i see the girl step off the side walk and fall and kinda slide. so i went to pick her up.
so its kinda weird its like i had a moment were i interacted/ met my self in real life. I'm such a knight in shining armer i felt ha ha. wow I'm psychic
does froid ever cover thos type of dream ?

interesting facts man. i liked that part. as for the significance of our dreams meaning id have to say there is a lot having to do with our subconscious and things going on in our life that may be difficult or repressed and other times dreams can be precognitive if you have that gift... dreams have unlimited potential if you really look into it. if you can become conscious during dreams its an amazing thing.. or even go out of body from a dream or directly from sleep to an obe state. i mean dreams are amazing and there is so much behind them that many people neglect and should pay more attention to.

well iv been told hes full of him self.
no one i have told about these type of dreams have ever had any idea what to make of it.
i think its park of the holographic reality theory. some how i accessed a part of my future in my dream for my own viewing. either as a sign or for some kinda entertainment or to prove something.
id like to be able to do this when ever i feel. id be able to bet on games and know the out come. im sure people do this as a means to make sure cash.

I don't know any facts on this stuff, but when I was a teenager, I had VERY overly controlling parents (my dad is ocd, borderline paranoid schizo) they had these weird rules, that were ridiculous, like only taking a bath for half an hour because I might drown if I stayed in longer. Anyhow, I dreamed frequently during those years that my teeth would become loose, and then fall out. It was really disturbing when I had these dreams, like a nightmare. Well, I grew up and of course was perfectly trained to marry an abusive over controlling jerk. When I was with him I started having these same nightmares once again. So, I looked them up and the loss of teeth indicates a feeling of being under someone else's control, or having your rights stripped from you.
It made sense to me.

LAGraff, that would be amazingly awesome but it is way too far fetched for me in this era
happyhippies, idk i just feel like applying symbolism to dreams leaves so much room for variation that people are telling themselves what they want to hear. its kinda like when people read horoscopes and say "omg that is me exactly!" its a very open ended interpretation. on the other hand all is still theory so you could be right on target

locus, ive read a bit about dream control. i think the hobson mccarley theory would argue that you are simply priming your brain to access certain images/memories by thinking about them before sleep. by thinking about them before you sleep they are in you short term memory and past memories therefore increasing the chance that they will be accessed during rem. also if your dreams are just strung together as you awake the interpretation leaves so much open, so you could in fact "write" that controlled story subconsciously as soon as you awake.

In my dreams I see drugs, beer and cooter in mass amounts. I have sex with individuals I would normally not have sex with, and I have to kill raccoons to power my raccoon-powered laptop.
