so after almost dying in the desert about a year ago i decided that i needed a way to communicate with friends and EMS services when i was out of cell phone contact.
I bought my self a SPOT Satellite messanger. It is a small gps device that has 3 options. send OK message to any cell or e-mail send HELP message to any cell or e-mail send 911 EMERGENCY Distress signal to dispatch center.
one of the nice things about this product is that it overlays your location on a google map whenever you send a help or OK signal. i tried it a few minutes after activation and it worked like a charm.
also, it has a option to pay $8 a year for $100,000 in coverage for any emergency services you might be billed for in the event you use the 911/ emergency function.
its pretty cool. you should check it out. might help out alot of you gurilla growers or people smuggling shit across the border in harsh terrain. Its also good for people that like to hike and work in the outback like me

well the unit it self was 150 and the service was $150.
i almost died when my car died out in the desert while i was looking at some VERY remote properties (i work in realestate development)
i had a 35 mile walk through the desert till the highway, and i didnt have any water or food, i walked a good 10 some miles before i started halucinating, and was pretty much resigned to the fact that i was going to die. I had to drink my own urine just to make it those 10 miles.....
then some miners drove past, i signaled them with a flint and steel fire starter i had, and they scooped me up.

wow that is a crazy story. sounds like something off a movie, espesially the bit where you pulled out the flint to attract attention.

i do love those man vs wild shows... cool shit.
still in the desert with NO water there aint much you can do.
yeah it was pretty crazy out there. i always travel with flares now... i need a flare gun to be honest.
while i was out there, somehow there was a water truck that got lost and accidentally came about a mile away from me. i tried to signal it on my CB readio (it was day time) and it just turned a circle and drove away.......... i thought i lost my only chance there....
but now im good
sweet deal
