well i myself would ask why they shot, of course i would do this while finding a place to hide behind for cover.
my point was that 1. being on someone else's property could most likely invited the shot
so you made them a killer, quite different than how us soldiers are made killers
2. its none of our bisness to be over there, they have to work there own problems out. they will or they won't, if the fail then thats what was sopposed to happen. its there culture, there country, there land

There was also a point that if you need to ask here, than "uhoh" for you...which is true, in a away, but I understand why you would do such a thing.
Kind of like I said before, I think you should really examine your motives before you take on such a responsibility.
That's something that a lot of folks in the service, unfortunately for them and for the service as a whole, don't do.
We've got a pretty serious problem over there, and (oh shit opinions) there aren't many good solutions. Pull out, leave chaos, cause the deaths of tens of thousands, and leave a power vacuum. That will probably lead to someone worse than the last regime taking power. Worse for the people of Iraq and worse for the world.
Staying sucks too.
If only we were more willing to work with the international community on this back in 02.

There was a time when the army was important to the safety of the country. That time is not now.
The Peace Corp is something that actually matters IMO. There are many military or non military options that are better than the army (the branches that see combat that is). You become their property. You are no longer an individual, you are theirs essentially. I strongly disagree with the US army, and continue to do so. You are at the bottom of a chain of hierarchy that goes up to president bush in essence.
So you don't know what to do with your life right now, thats ok, but as soon as you sign those papers, any ideas you have floating around in your head, any possibilities other than the army are dead.
