beginning at-home brewery questions

I've just started brewing very crude beer about a month ago. It is nicely carbonated, but it smells very yeasty (obvious extreme amount of yeast in it... about 1 1/2 inches of yeast on the bottom of a coke bottle) when I had put about 25 mg in the bottle to begin with. Is this normal for brewing? If not, what can I do to control it in the future?

yep its gonna happen, you need to rack it off with a racking cane, or in this case a crazy straw, suck it out into another bottle that is positioned lower than your coke bottle (gravitationally drain like with fish tanks). I'd say google or get a book from a brewing store.

You could make a primitive siphon yourself if you needed to. But I would strongly suggest getting some carboys instead of plastic bottles. Plastic can impart flavors and harbor contiminates much more redily than food grade glass containors. How are you doing your brew? All extract? Partial mash? All grain? Etc.
I have been apprenticed to a Master Brewer for about 4 years now, so if you need anything feel free to PM or just keep posting. Brewing is great and its way cheaper than the liquor store for good beer.
Something about making a keg's worth of a Samual Smith Nut Brown Ale for faaar less than the cost of a case of it is awesome
