Ways of Power vs. Ways of Wisdom
    #8410626 - 05/16/08 07:16 PM (4 months, 26 days ago)

If I have control over my life experiences, I have power. Power to "do".

If I have the ability to see whatever "happens" to me as my "doing", I have wisdom.

Ok. Is power a trap? Will it become in itself a happening?

I don't like the idea of power really, it always tends to lead to some form or another of corruption. And then what if you believe in yourself to be all-powerful and capable of ANYTHING, and fail?

Then the failing will be that much more humbling, or humiliating alternatively.

I suppose you must believe in yourself though, to get anywhere or get anything accomplished.

Is wisdom not a form of power?

it is in a different sense than every other form of power is a form of power. it is the power to accept, not to do.

forms of power include mental capabilities (memory, intuition, emotional control, vigilance, art of influence)

monetary power

social power (top of the hierarchy, "key player")

technological power (ability to shape environment with roads and buildings, storing large amounts of information, weaponry, power over health through medicine)

and probably many other forms with many overlaps.

I can see how some forms collapse. If you are rich you are just as well freedomless in your spending because everyone needs some of it. If you are high enough up on a hierarchy you will have many "flappers" surrounding you: people who decide which of your words reach the public and which of the public's words reach you.

Others, while it seems to me should follow the same general principle, do not appear to have an inherent tendency to collapse. Namely mental powers (other than wisdom or "acceptance") and medicinal technology, I am not sure if these beheld powers eventually become powers "outside" of our volition.

Going by your definition of power, having some isn't a bad thing is it? Traps abound though. Being powerless could also be a trap.

If one looks at the Thora's Tree of Life, Wisdom stands on the same line like mercy, and power is connected to intelligence. So the contra-player of wisdom is intelligence, which mainly feeds the power.
One could say there are two kinds of power, one which uses wisdom, one which doesn't use it, but both need intelligence to be settled down and to be brought to effect.
Just some thoughts.
