@Nomis- thanks, thats good to know. I explored the pine plantings today, and found barely anything. A cupl of random, dry specimens. Amanitas were plentinful under cork trees, however. Also, some weird dudes that looked like mini octopus' with a spore bag on top.
More subs today, but I dont wanna make anyone jealous. I just wish I could find them in the wild, rather than botanical gardens!
Oi!-> Whatya all do when you get busted 'doing something weird'? Digging through the dirt.. Just wondering what you tell ppl, off the hat?

i've been for a few hunts over the last few days, and i've only seen a few mushrooms at all. i've been looking down by the local river in all the shady spots on the banks and such. but there is just no mushrooms there at all of any kind in my area. can anyone help with some info on places i should look?
ps the river isnt the only place i've looked, i've been looking everywhere i walk around town but havent seen any shrooms at all!!!
we also havent had very much rain in my area only some light rain last night and again a few days ago

Try areas with semi-dense eucalyptus/pine forests.

They are called earthstars, pretty cool looking things and its fun to flick the spore bad and watch the spores come out haha.

i think i may have foud some subs earlier on but i'm not too sure. they were in a pretty inaccessable spot(right accross the road from the local police station) they were growing in a cluster on a very well looked after lawn out the front of a lawn bowls club. the thing that makes me uncertain about them is they were a couple of days old(maybe not days old but they were old!!) and were decomposing! will subs do that or will they dry out in the dirt. another thing is the gills were turning black, is that consistent with subs as they age. i thought maybe that the spores might have turned th gills that colour. any way will go back down later on and take some pics and get a sample. cheers in advance to all who heed this question ps.how the fuck do i upload pics??? it says that i cant upload this file type(jpeg). whats the go???

How do I put pictures in my post? - A step by step pictorial. http://www.shroomery.org/5286/How-do-I-put-pictures-in-my-post
To resize your pictures, download Microsoft 'Image Resizer' - http://download.microsoft.com/download/whistler/Install/2/WXP/EN-US/ImageResizerPowertoySetup.exe
Check for bugs/maggots in the mushrooms, if you can see visible rotting of gills/cap/stem it may be best to avoid them. Subs will dry out and blacken/rot after they reach maturity, or turn to rotted goo from too much constant moisture. Use your best judgement, food poisoning is not fun.

they can grow in grassy areas, and they can grow in clusters... just not usually.
If they are in grass though there's usually buried wood or chips underneath.
Clusters in grass:

Solitary in grass:

That said, you usually don't get them on well manicured lawns. His mushrooms sound more likely Coprinus growing on buried wood or Panaeolus or Psathyrella in the lawn

They had more rain last week.. It's cold enough here now, just no real rain that's all... the humid gullies would be worth a look at the moment, but next weekend looks like a goer with a bit of rain later this week.
