Ok, let me re-phrase that. I made an LC. I didn't have a pot big enough to cover. The boiling water was about an inch lower than water in the glass container. I boiled it on high for about 90 minutes. Are the endospores dead? I didn't take the temp, but it was hot as fuck, LOL.

I used what I had at home. One of the wifes containers and a chunk of silicon stuffed in it. Everything was pre-boiled, and I used a sterile syringe plugged with polyfil to prevent the silicon from popping out or in.

Thank you, I figured it wouldn't get that high since it wasn't fully submerged. That is why I let it go for 1-1/2 hours.

Honey harbors endospores? That's news to me.

Thats what I have heard here several times. Supposedly, that is why infants aren't supposed to eat it. You got me.?.?

its just that honey in its natural form is resistant to most growth, once watered down its the perfect enviroment.

think i read somewhere thats why you don't give honey to babys as they don't have resistance to them endospores

According to many sources on the internet, honey frequently contains endospores, and should not be give to infants.

Wikipedia sucks, but the other articles were to long.

Thanks for the responces everyone. That is the best I can do for an LC right now. I have been so busy I didn't have time to go to the store. Today I had to write a 2,000 word paper on bilingual education, and a 1,200 word paper on agricultural land conservation. I am so brain dead I can hardly focus on this computer screen. I think it is time to grab a beer, and fire one up. :blazed:

AKA "infant botulism", which is a type of food poisoning caused by a bacteria spores called Clostridium botulinum.

Exactly. But only infants are susceptible to this form of botulism. and further this is a bacteria as opposed to a fungus, so I doubt the spores could interfere with myc colonization, and I further doubt that infected honey could transfer to the myc, then on to the mushrooms, to poison an adult consuming those mushrooms. Therefore, I think it is *not* necessary to heat honey high enough to kill Clostridium botulinum.

What say you?

I think it falls into the fungi imperfect family(ie yeast)..The spores are fine. It produces the deadly toxin, botulin..Temps around boiling cant kill them. But they can't grow in a highly sugar solution with oxygen like a LC..They like low acid, low oxygen digestive system of an infant, there the spores can grow and produce the toxin.
