Ulcers and shrooms?
    #8406639 - 05/15/08 07:36 PM (3 months, 21 days ago)

I have a friend that wants to try mushrooms but he has an ulcer and is sort of concerned about the shrooms screwing with his stomach. Do any of you guys know if mushrooms would interfere with an ulcer or not? I've heard that shrooms can cause ulcers but I've also heard that that's not true so, need advice...

I went through a time when I was certain that I had an ulcer. Puking up blood and stuff.

But this was also during a time that I was taking alot of dirty pills and drinking G and stuff. All which are garbage for the body.

The magic mushroom is just a friendly fungus. If he has no restriction to good natural foods, than mushrooms should be just fine.

Don't take my word for it though.

I am not a doctor.

However, some people vomit once they've taken mushrooms which contain psilocybin.

I don't have an ulcer but I think the general idea is to vomit as little as possible when you have an ulcer. Also, is he taking treatment for it? I understood stomach ulcers can be occasionally treated with antibiotics. If that is the case, I'd probably hold off tripping until the bleeding stops.

well I don't think he's bleeding or anything. he hasn't spit up blood or shit blood or anything like that. it's a fairly minor ulcer just an occasional upset stomach between meals

that sounds like me then. they hurt really bad when i get stressed.

but i was also told that when you stress your body builds some form of acid in your stomach lining that a LOT of ppl believe are ulcers and get checked out and nothings there...

im starting to think this is what happens to me, bcuz everytime i go to the doc and tell them i think i have ulcers, they take it with a grain of salt...

its safe! eat em up! yum yum

One good way to ingest mushrooms that is easy on the stomach is to do so by mixing the fungus in with some tea. Many people, myself included, do this to prevent any nausea during the trip.

i'm surprised no one has mentioned yet that most ulcers are caused by a bacteria called h. pyloris. i've never heard of shrooms causing ulcers.

that being said, it's certainly possible they may irritate a pre-existing ulcer. obviously i'm no doctor, but think it's pretty different for everyone. some people do experience stomach upset from mushrooms, while others(including myself, and i used to have problems with ulcers) don't.

editted to add, if your friend is not experiencing bloody vomit or stool i wouldn't be too concerned.
