The thesis that I want to advance today is that the drug war and the laws that prohibit the private consumption of certain drugs are unconstitutional. Prohibition laws, themselves, violate every tenet of limited government that is embodied in our Constitution.

I definately did my part. It is VERY ignorant to keep personal use of marijuana illegal. I'm not going into detail as for Alcohol vs. Marijuana as that is very obvious and doesnt even need to be addressed. I am going to spread this word to everyone I know, Online and in person, lets get this thing passed!!!

this is what my email said that i recieved back...i edited out my name
Quote:
Dear [Heartofalion],
Thank you for contacting me about personal use of marijuana. It is good to hear from you.
On April 17, 2008, Representative Barney Frank introduced H.R. 5843, the Act to Remove Federal Penalties for the Personal Use of Marijuana by Responsible Adults. This bill removes federal penalties on adult possession of marijuana for personal use or for not-for-profit transfer of marijuana between adults for personal use. This bill further clarifies that 100 grams or less of marijuana falls under the definition of personal usage. H.R. 5843 has been referred to the House Committee on the Judiciary and the House Committee on Energy and Commerce.
On this issue we will have to agree to disagree. I believe that the federal government must take a strong stand in opposition to all illegal drugs, including marijuana. The main ingredient in marijuana is THC (delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol), which is a mind-altering chemical. A typical marijuana joint is estimated to weigh about 0.4 grams. If a standard joint is 0.4 grams of average-quality 6% marijuana buds, an ounce of "standard pot" equals more than 60 joints. An ounce of more potent 12% sinsemilla is 120 joints. Thus an ounce is from 60 to 120 joints.
H.R. 5843 would allow anyone 18 or older to be in possession of up to 210 to 420 joints at any given time including a senior in high school or a first year college student! The amount of joints this bill permits raises questions of trafficking- not personal use. Thus, I will oppose H.R. 5843 if it comes up for a vote on the House floor.
Thank you again for contacting me about this issue. I regret that we disagree on this particular issue but if you have any other concerns, please feel free to contact me in the future.
P.S. Communicating with the people I represent is very important to me. 210 to 420 joints huh?
I'm not sure, but I've never ever tried to roll that many.
Mind altering chemical? What is alcohol, jackass? Seriously, we need new management.
uh-oh. I have 5 handles of whiskey. That equates to 600 shots. (IDK, shot in the dark.) What would we do if a 21 year old got his hands on THAT?!
Idiots.

I wish you luck with that bill. Canada unfortunately with our new government seems hell bent on following the US model when just 3 years ago we were about to decriminalize small amounts.
Not much luck with the culture, I cant seem to outrace the green. Going to give it one more try soon as my n ext batch of petri dishes arrives.

I wish people here sounded more optimistic about this....
This is simply a representation of government limiting personal liberties. And doing so unjustifiably, in this case.
Some day our government will recognize that they are responsible to carry out the will of the people in matters of personal liberties, foreign affairs, economic regulation, etc. They will see that the ONLY answer is to respond to US, rather than trying to make us respond to and obey THEM. Propoganda and corruption are the downfall of democracy.
If they don't figure this out they're either driving us off a cliff or into a revolution.

I am sorry but I would never hand my mailing address and location over to the government while asking them to legalize anything. You'll probably end up getting watched more if anything.

I heard from a video once, that each contact that a person gets, counts as 13 000! So each time someone contacts them on this issue, they multiply it by 13 000. With enough people voicing their opinion the people in congress will follow their main goal, get re-elected, and vote in favor of the "majority" of their constituents when in reality it is a tiny proportion. But that doesn't help with the corruption...

watched more? what are you talking about?
Who is watching you? Why?
I've emailed every one of my state and federal senators and representatives as well as the president and governor at least once and I'd be surprised if I'm being watched.
